Humanities Student Awards

Each spring semester, the History program at Clayton State honors its best majors with these awards.

Award for Excellence in the Study of History

The Clayton State Award for Excellence in History is presented each Spring Semester to the most outstanding history student as designated by the history faculty.  The Award winner receives a cash award and a certificate.

The student must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for this award:

  • The student must have been enrolled in HIST 4850 Senior Thesis in History
  • The student must have taken the History ACAT during the fall or spring semesters.
  • The student must have completed (or will complete by the end of the semester the award is given) at least 60 units of academic coursework graded “A” through “F” at Clayton State University.
  • The student must be nominated by a history faculty member.  Nominees will be evaluated by GPA, demonstration of superior research, writing, and scholarship, and high achievement in upper division history courses at Clayton State University.

Award for the Top Senior Thesis

This award is presented each Spring Semester to the student who wrote the best senior thesis in HIST 4850, determined by a committee of Clayton State University history professors.  Each winner receives a certificate and cash award.

The student must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for this award:

  • The student must have been enrolled in HIST 4850 Senior Thesis in History
  • The student must have completed (or will complete by the end of the semester the award is given) at least 60 units of academic coursework graded “A” through “F” at Clayton State University.
  • The student must be nominated by a history faculty member and selected by the faculty committee.

History Achievement Award

This award is presented each Spring Semester to the student who had the highest overall score (at least above the 89th percentile of the National Average) on the History ACAT, a nationally normed content-based student learning assessment required of all graduating seniors.  Each winner receives a certificate and cash award.

The student must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for this award:

  • The student must have been enrolled in HIST 4850 Senior Thesis in History
  • The student must have taken the History ACAT during the fall or spring semesters.
  • The student must have completed at least 60 units of academic coursework graded “A” through “F” at Clayton State University.
