CDC, GA Department of Health Guidelines, and Governor Executive Orders have strict requirements that Clayton State University would be required to meet in order to hold an in-person commencement ceremony. We do not believe that we have the ability to ensure compliance with these guidelines while providing a safe environment for the over 1,400 graduates of 2020 and our staff and faculty.

There are high schools and universities that have announced they will be holding in person commencement ceremonies. The respective ceremonies will be held in outside sporting arenas utilizing the seating with significant crowd capacities (some as much as 50,000 to 90,000) or inside arenas with capacities greater than our Athletic facility. We do not have an outside or inside facility that would be able to host a commencement ceremony at Clayton State University while ensuring compliance to the necessary guidelines and providing a safe environment for our students, staff, and faculty.

The ceremony will be shown via a connection on the CSU website and on demand via YouTube.

Your name, the degree earned, your major, minor (if applicable), and academic honor (if applicable) will be included for each graduate.  In addition, each graduate will have the option of adding a personal message to be included in their video or picture.

All degree graduates from Spring 2020, Summer 2020, and Fall 2020 will be eligible to participate.

You may have as many guests participate in your celebration as you would like at a time that fits your plans.

The ceremony will be available on demand after the time and date of the initial showing.  You will also be able to share portions of the ceremony on your social media to ensure others who were not able to view the ceremony can celebrate with you.

Commencement caps and gowns are available for you to purchase through our bookstore.  You can certainly purchase these items to be included as part of your video submission, but you are do not need to purchase a cap and gown unless you choose to do so.

All photos must be generated and submitted by the graduate through the automated invitation you will receive in November. For those graduates who would like to take their photo on campus, Clayton State will be setting up photo locations at some of your favorite campus spots.

No, you may take your photo/video at the location of your choice.

Graduates have up to 60 integrated links to social media channels to instantly share their individual recognition clips on social media. There is also a live chat feature on YouTube Premieres.

Yes, there will be multiple speakers participating in the ceremony.  We are eager to celebrate the completion of your degree.  Multiple speakers will be joining with President Hynes in offering their congratulatory remarks.
