Master of Arts in Teaching Course Sequences

The M.A.T. program curriculum is designed to be delivered over four semesters.* All professional education courses and clinical and internship experiences will be taught and supervised by education faculty and public-school mentor teachers. Faculty in the Departments of English, Biology, History and Mathematics will teach content courses. Our partnership school districts serve as collaborative sites for field experiences and internships.

Suggested Course Sequence

Spring One

  • Content area courses
  • Courses addressing pedagogical knowledge, skills, and dispositions
  • Field experiences to support candidates' educational foundation theory and knowledge

Summer

  • Content area courses
  • Courses to support candidates' educational foundation theory and knowledge
  • Field experiences to support candidates' educational foundation theory and knowledge

Fall

  • Content area courses
  • Courses to support candidates' educational foundation theory and knowledge
  • Weekly practicum experience in a secondary classroom

Spring Two

  • Full time student teaching internship in a secondary classroom.

*We suggest beginning the program in the Spring; however, you can actually start the program during any semester. *Starting the program in a semester other than spring may extend your time in the program.
