Policy Statement:
The Clayton State University Library participates in the Atlanta Regional Consortium
for Higher Education (ARCHE) interlibrary use program. The program allows faculty,
staff, and students of member institutions to borrow from the collections of other
ARCHE libraries.
Permission to borrow from another library is a privilege granted by the home library for a specific period, for a specific purpose.
This policy is guided by the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (ARCHE)
Interlibrary Use (ILU) Policies and Procedures. The policy allows faculty, staff and students of
ARCHE member institutions (see VI. Definitions) to borrow library materials from other ARCHE libraries.
Reason for Policy:
Library policies are created to assist students, faculty/staff, and community users
with developing a welcoming and inviting study and research space within the library
facility. Each policy explains who, how, and when the library building, resources,
etc. can be accessed. In the event library property becomes lost or damaged, or there
is a disturbance during operating hours, policies and procedures explain how these
matters will be resolved.
Policy Scope:
Library staff
Policy:
Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. ARCHE ILU cards are designated for
use in one library only. If the patron needs books from multiple ARCHE libraries,
they will be given a card for each library. ARCHE ILU cards are issued to individuals
and are not transferable.
Any Clayton State University student in good standing with the Clayton State Library can obtain a green ARCHE ILU card to borrow materials from private ARCHE libraries.
Any Clayton State University faculty or staff in good standing with the Clayton State Library can obtain a yellow ARCHE ILU card to borrow materials from private ARCHE libraries. Faculty/staff are not entitled to extended loan periods at other institutions.
A student ARCHE ILU card is issued for a period that does not exceed the last day of classes for the term in which the card is issued. A faculty/staff ARCHE ILU card can be issued for a period that is not more than 12 months from the date of issuance. ARCHE ILU cards for part-time faculty/staff should expire on the last day of classes for the term in which the card is issued.
Each Clayton State University Library patron who is issued an ARCHE ILU card is expected
to follow the borrowing and return policies of the lending library. Overdue items
may result in a Banner hold on the borrower’s account. The borrower will be responsible
for the replacement cost of any lost items.
Procedures:
Obtaining an ARCHE Card
- Clayton State University students, faculty or staff who need to borrow an item from one of the private ARCHE member institutions should place their request at the reference desk on the upper level of the library. A librarian will issue an ARCHE ILU card to a student, faculty or staff who presents a valid LakerCard. The librarian will also determine if the desired item is among the holdings of the destination library.
Using the ARCHE ILU Card
- Clayton State University students, faculty and staff must present the ARCHE ILU card, a current LakerID, and a photo ID. Some institutions may require government-issued identification. Students from ARCHE institutions who wish to borrow from Clayton State University Library must present their institution’s ARCHE ILU card and a government-issued identification or driver’s license.
Overdue and Lost Items
- An ARCHE institution will notify the Clayton State Library that an item they lent out is overdue, we will place a hold on that student’s or faculty/staff member’s Banner account until the lending library notifies us that the item has been returned. The lending institution will invoice Clayton State Library for the cost of any lost items. The cost of the item(s) must be covered by the patron.
