HOPE Scholarship Checkpoints

Maintaining HOPE Eligibility: In addition to other requirements, HOPE Scholarship requires a minimum 3.0 calculated HOPE GPA at each Checkpoint to maintain eligibility.  The Checkpoints include the Attempted Hours Checkpoints and the End-of-Spring Checkpoints. 

  • Attempted Hours Checkpoint and
    • 1st Checkpoint: 30 attempted hours
    • 2nd Checkpoint: 60 attempted hours
    • 3rd Checkpoint: 90 attempted hours
  • End-of-Spring Checkpoint: at the end of every Spring

Gaining HOPE Eligibility: HOPE Scholarship may be gained as a college/university student.  Eligibility can be checked after you have attempted the aforementioned Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  **While HOPE Scholarship can be maintained or lost during the End-of-Spring Checkpoint, it cannot be gained during the End-of-Spring Checkpoint unless it is also an Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  The 90th Attempted Hours Checkpoint is the last checkpoint to be able to gain HOPE Eligibility.    

Regaining HOPE Eligibility: If you have lost HOPE Scholarship eligibility at a Checkpoint, it may be possible for you to regain eligibility during the aforementioned Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  **While HOPE Scholarship can be maintained or lost during the End-of-Spring Checkpoint, it cannot be regained during the End-of-Spring Checkpoint unless it is also an Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  HOPE Scholarship eligibility may be regained one time at an Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  On the second loss of HOPE Scholarship, you become permanently ineligible for HOPE Scholarship.  The 90th Attempted Hours Checkpoint is the last checkpoint to be able to regain HOPE Eligibility.      

Now, with the My College HOPE Profile, students who have earned the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship can track their academic eligibility while attending a HOPE-eligible Georgia college or university.   


Zell Miller Scholarship Checkpoints

Maintaining Zell Miller Eligibility: In addition to other requirements, Zell Miller Scholarship requires a minimum 3.3 calculated HOPE GPA at each Checkpoint to maintain eligibility.  The Checkpoints include the Attempted Hours Checkpoints and the End-of-Spring Checkpoints. 

  • Attempted Hours Checkpoint and
    • 1st Checkpoint: 30 attempted hours
    • 2nd Checkpoint: 60 attempted hours
    • 3rd Checkpoint: 90 attempted hours
  • End-of-Spring Checkpoint: at the end of every Spring

Gaining HOPE Eligibility: Student must meet the academic eligibility requirements at the time of high school graduation, home study completion or GED test date.  The Zell Miller Scholarship may not be gained as a college/university student. 

Regaining Zell Miller Eligibility: If you have lost Zell Miller Scholarship eligibility at a Checkpoint, it may be possible for you to regain eligibility or gain HOPE Scholarship eligibility during the aforementioned Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  **While Zell Miller Scholarship can be maintained or lost during the End-of-Spring Checkpoint, it cannot be regained during the End-of-Spring Checkpoint unless it is also an Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  When a student loses Zell Miller Scholarship eligibility at a checkpoint, with a minimum 3.0 calculated HOPE GPA, then they can receive HOPE Scholarship (provided that all of the other eligibility requirements are maintained). Zell Miller Scholarship eligibility may be regained one time at an Attempted Hours Checkpoint.  On the second loss of Zell Miller Scholarship, you become permanently ineligible for Zell Miller Scholarship.  The 90th Attempted Hours Checkpoint is the last checkpoint to be able to regain Zell Miller Scholarship Eligibility.
