Hackathon General Rules, Guidelines, & Categories*
General Rules, Guidelines & Information
1. You need to be a registered hackathon attendee to participate and be eligible for the hackathon awards.
2. Teams of 3-5 members must register their team and project during the hackathon on Thursday November 5, 2026, by 3:30 pm EDT*.
3. Project development must occur between 1:00 pm Thursday November 5 to 5:00 pm Friday, November 6.
4. Each team must include teammates from the following majors, departments, and/or colleges:
a. Computer Science & Information Technology (Required)
b. College of Business (Required)
c. And, at least one teammate from one of the following majors/colleges:
i. School of Sciences (e.g., Biology or Chemistry)
ii. College of Health (e.g., Health Sciences, Nursing, Health & Fitness Management)
iii. College of Arts & Sciences (e.g., Psychology & Human Services, Communication & Media Studies, etc.)
5. The project must incorporate technology, particularly emerging technologies (apps/programs, AI, robotics, IoT, etc.).
6. The submitted project must be original. However-
-Source code can contain modified portions of code from other apps/programs
-Robotics can be modified from prior projects.
-If you are modifying project and have concerns about whether it qualifies as original, you can ask one of the judges during the hackathon.
7. Your prototype must run/work without catastrophic errors (warnings are okay). The prototype does not have to be perfect.
8. To qualify for an award, the project must be relevant to the Hack for Health! challenge described at the beginning of the hackathon on November 5, 2026.
9. Your project and summary files must be submitted by 5:00pm Friday November 6, 2026*. If your team does not submit code/demo video and summary files, we will assume that your team has withdrawn from the competition.
d. For robotics, internet of things, etc. a video demo will be sufficient.
10. At least three team members must be present on each Hackathon day (November 5-6, 2026).
11. All team members must attend the pitch session on Monday November 9th from 9-11am. You will have no more than five minutes to describe your project. There will be some time for questions from the judges after your pitch.
12. All team members must attend the awards ceremony Monday November 9th from 12-1pm.
Categories & Prizes:
Winners will be selected based on the judging criteria described in the Official Guidelines, Information, & Rules released after team project registration. The overall winning team will receive $1000. The People’s Choice team will receive $500.
