Nursing Assistant Dean’s Message

Welcome to the Clayton State University School of Nursing!

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the nursing programs offered here at CSU. Nursing has been a part of our academic offerings since the inception of our university in 1969. Beginning first as a two-year Associate Degree program, it gradually evolved into full four-year program offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) fully approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing and nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Our graduates consistently score very well on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RNÒ). The School of Nursing is a part of the Clayton State University College of Health which offers additional majors in the health sciences and dental hygiene.

Admittance into nursing school is a very competitive process. A separate application is required usually halfway through a student’s sophomore year, and acceptance decisions are based on cumulative university grade point averages, cumulative university grade point averages in mathematics and the sciences, the successful completion of all prerequisite coursework required by the nursing program, competitive scores on nursing admission tests, and interview results from the admissions committee.

Once admitted into the program, the student becomes part of our nursing family which is dedicated to seeing one grow and develop into a professional nurse. Courses are delivered in a hybrid format, with face to face classroom sessions enhanced with learning essential skills in our nursing simulation laboratories and web based educational modules. Required clinical learning experiences are arranged through our healthcare partners at facilities all around the Atlanta metro area to assure our graduates are up for the challenge of taking care of patients in these complex and challenging times.

In addition to our BSN prelicensure track, we also offer a RN to BSN option for nurses initially educated at the associate degree level and who now desire to complete their baccalaureate education. We also offer a US News & World Report ranked graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Both of these tracks are offered completely online.

These are exciting times in which to be a professional nurse with multiple employment opportunities in a variety of healthcare settings. I feel very honored to lead the dedicated faculty and staff of the CSU School of Nursing in our teaching mission of educating the region’s future generations of professional nurses and advanced practice nurse clinicians. If you have questions regarding our nursing programs, or the nursing profession in general, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us and we will respond as quickly as possible.
