Clayton State University Announces Launch of College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CSTEM)

(June 9, 2025) - In an exciting step toward preparing students for high-demand careers in an increasingly digital world, Clayton State University proudly announces the transition of its College of Information and Mathematical Sciences to the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CSTEM).

This strategic evolution aligns with national and global workforce trends, positioning students at the forefront of innovation, research, and career-readiness across disciplines such as computer science, mathematics, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI). 

The renaming of CIMS to the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics is more than a name change—it’s a bold, strategic shift that underscores CSU’s commitment to preparing students for the most in-demand fields of the 21st century, opening doors to enduring opportunities for social advancement,” said Dr. Jill Drake, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “As CSTEM, we’re expanding our scope and deepening our commitment to offer students academic pathways that meet the growing demands of technology-driven industries.” 

Empowering the Next Generation of Tech Leaders 

The newly formed CSTEM is already making waves with the introduction of two cutting-edge, pre-baccalaureate certificate programs: 

  • Undergraduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence 
  • Undergraduate Certificate in Cybersecurity 

In addition to the certificate programs, CSTEM offers multiple degree pathways, including: 

  • Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology 
  • Associate of Science in Integrative Studies (REPP - Pre-Engineering) 
  • Bachelor of Information Technology 
  • Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity 
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (with concentrations in Big Data, Cybersecurity, and Games) 
  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics 
  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Secondary Certification 

Students will benefit from a blend of academic rigor, applied learning, internships, research, and community engagement, making CSTEM a launchpad for success in a digitally driven world. 

These programs are designed for high school graduates, working adults, and current Clayton State students across all majors. Without requiring a full bachelor’s degree, these flexible certificates offer foundational and advanced skills that prepare students to launch, pivot, or grow their careers in the ranging technology sectors. 

“The CSTEM model is built on the understanding that today’s learners need accessible, career-focused pathways," said Dr. Ebrahim Khosravi, Dean of CSTEM. "Our certificate, associate, bachelor’s, and master programs in AI and cybersecurity are designed to meet students where they are—whether they’re entering the workforce, advancing their careers, or preparing for further academic study. These programs open doors to meaningful opportunities and long-term success.”
