Clayton State, Clayton County Public Schools look to deliver new program

(October 10, 2023) - An intriguing partnership is in the works for those looking to maintain their academic upbringing and career in Clayton County.

Leaders from both institutions look to further heighten the value of a Clayton County education

Clayton State University will partner with Clayton County Public Schools to deliver the proposed Academic Enrichment and Bridge Accelerator program, which looks to increase the number of students from Clayton County Public Schools enrolled in the dual enrollment program at Clayton State University.

Additionally, the program looks to increase the number of those students who subsequently matriculate and graduate from Clayton State University.

In August 2023, Dr. Delphia Young of Clayton County Public Schools reached out to Clayton State’s Dr. Kimberly McLeod and expressed her excitement in the community’s new partnership.

“We stand ready to partner with Clayton State University as we work collectively to bring many positive impacts to students, families, and Clayton County communities,” Young said.

Furthermore, Young also noted that CCPS is “particularly invested in diversifying the pipeline of future educators and establishing a solid structure” in the new partnership, noting that three of the county’s high schools – Jonesboro, Morrow, and Riverdale – are all “dedicated to training students to become teachers.”

“Identifying and supporting a future educator cohort in the Academic Enrichment and Bridge Accelerator program will increase teacher pipeline diversity and benefit Clayton County Schools and its three high schools with approved teacher preparation Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) pathways,” Young said.
