Ms. Patricia Sas Ellis Proves It’s Never Too Late to Graduate
(May 12, 2025) - In a heartwarming and powerful testament to perseverance, Patricia Sas Ellis, age 79, crossed the graduation stage at Clayton State University this weekend, earning her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Her journey, which began decades ago and overcame numerous life obstacles, is a stirring reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.
After raising a family and supporting her husband and son through their own academic achievements, Ellis returned to the classroom at age 71. She took one or two classes at a time, never letting age, time, or even a serious health setback — including a 10-pound kidney tumor — stop her. With infectious positivity and deep resolve, she not only completed her degree but became a beloved presence on campus, inspiring students and faculty alike.
“Whether you’re 19 or 79, learning never loses its value,” Ellis shared. “I didn’t just want a degree — I wanted to finish what I started and use my knowledge to help others.”
Now a proud graduate, Ellis plans to use what she’s learned to educate her community about their rights and access to justice. She’s even considering pursuing a master’s degree.
Her story aired on 11Alive News and continues to motivate people across the country to take that first step toward their goals — no matter their age.
