Balloons, Beams, and Bright Futures: Dental Hygiene Students Train with Laser Technology

(April 1, 2026) - Clayton State University dental hygiene students recently participated in an engaging, hands-on laser training experience designed to introduce them to emerging technologies in patient care. Using creative exercises—such as balloon-based simulations—students practiced precision, control, and safety while gaining confidence in using dental laser applications.

“This interactive session reflects our program’s commitment to innovative teaching and preparing practice-ready graduates equipped with the skills needed in today’s evolving healthcare environment,” said Naquilla Thomas, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene at Clayton State.

Earlier this year, Clayton State University’s Department of Dental Hygiene announced that ten faculty members had completed advanced training to become among the state’s first certified providers in laser therapy, making Clayton State the first of Georgia’s 15 dental hygiene programs to reach this milestone. The intensive eight-hour certification reflects the department’s commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and elevating the standard of care for both students and the communities it serves.
