We have heard time and time again how unprecedented this year has been. In March, we shared with the university community that we would postpone the spring 2020 commencement ceremony and would consider an option to gather in person during the fall. At that time, we were unaware of the lasting impact COVID-19 was going to have on us all. Like for so many of us, we could not imagine the pandemic for such a long period of time.
Commencement is and continues to be one of our favorite events each year. We look forward to seeing our students walk across the stage while being cheered on by family, friends, faculty and staff. As a community we have looked at multiple ways in which we would be able to offer an in-person ceremony. It is with the health and safety of our students, families, faculty and staff in mind that we share we will be hosting our 2020 commencement ceremonies virtually.
We ask you to please consider the health and safety of your classmates, the faculty who provided you instruction, the families that supported you, and the staff that were at your side assisting you along the way as you seek to understand this decision.
We will continue to share additional information about the virtual ceremony, how to submit your video or photo selfie to be included, and updates to the commencement FAQ’s.
Having a virtual ceremony does not take away from the hard work you have done to get to this point. Please mark Dec. 5, as your commencement ceremony and join us virtually in the celebration.
