Students who wish to audition are encouraged to participate in the annual VPA Department General Auditions for the theatrical productions of the Visual and Performing Arts Department. These take place in the spring semester of each year, with the intention of casting the productions of the plays, the dance concert and the Music Drama Workshop productions presented by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts during the following academic year. Additional callback auditions may be held for individual productions.
At the General Auditions, students will present a monologue and a song and learn a dance combination. Both monologue and song should be memorized. It is expected that the song will be presented with piano accompaniment, and the Department will provide a professional pianist to sight-read the score you bring with you. You may bring your own pianist if you prefer.
Students who are unable to participate in the General Auditions may arrange an individual audition by contacting the ensemble director, Dr. Kurt-Alexander Zeller, for an appointment. Auditions must be completed no later than the end of the add-drop period for the semester of enrollment. (A word to the wise: students who audition earlier generally get more significant casting assignments!)
