About the artists
Jamie Barton, mezzo-soprano
Kathleen Kelly, piano
Georgia native Jamie Barton is “a great artist, no question, with an imperturbable steadiness of tone, and a nobility of utterance that invites comparison not so much with her contemporaries as with mid-20th century greats such as Kirsten Flagstad” (The Guardian).
In tremendous demand by the world’s foremost opera companies including The Metropolitan Opera, she nonetheless has “the sort of instrument you could listen to all day, in any sort of repertoire” (Gramophone). “With searching intensity that found the wide emotional range of each song she sang, Barton performed as if each piece were a miniature drama” (Boston Classical Review).
“Barton’s radiant joy in performing was obvious… Barton’s luminous smile won me over before she sang a note” (The Arts Fuse)
