Clayton State University’s Society for Advancement of Management student chapter took home several awards, including Overall Business Skills Champions at the 2020 International Collegiate Business Skills Championship. The five-person team of students led by Associate Professor of Management Dr. Vincent Vinod competed against hundreds of colleges and universities in multiple contests such as a written case study, business case presentation, business pitch, extemporaneous speech and business knowledge bowl.

“Words cannot express how proud I am of our student team,” said Dr. Vinod. “Not only did our team work tirelessly preparing for the competition but they also remained focused during a time of great uncertainty and disruption to their personal lives.”

Clayton State took home the following awards:

  • Overall Team Business Skills Championship – Clayton State – 1st place
  • Overall Individual Business Skills Championship – Khadijat Giwa – 1st place
  • Knowledge Bowl – Stephen Upkins – 2nd place
  • Speech Competition – Khadijat Giwa - 3rd place
  • Business Pitch – Khadijat Giwa – 3rd place
  • Faculty & Practitioner Overall Best Paper Award – Dr. Vinod Vincent – Co-Winner

The Society of Management switched to a virtual competition on March 20 in order to allow students to still compete in spite of the coronavirus.

“Participating and winning the SAM Business Skills Competition meant a lot to me because it was my last academic competition as an undergrad. I will like to applaud my team members (Kayla Obiekwe, Stephen Upkins, Stephen Ukiwo and Sy Tran) for their hard work and flexibility to participate in the competition virtually,” said senior Khadijat Giwa.”Also, a big thank you to our advisor, Vinod Vincent and all COB faculty and staff for their immense support. It makes me happy to be able to show Laker pride with all the sad things happening in the world.”
