The Student Activities Center (SAC) will be closed on Thursday, July 4. The SAC will re-open at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 5.
Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Looking for a Financial Manager
The Spivey Hall Children’s Choir seeks a part-time financial manager. As the treasurer for the Children’s Choir, the financial manager is responsible for all financial transactions including receiving and processing tuition, tour payments, and fundraiser. The financial manager also maintains accurate records and presents regular reports to the Children’s Choir and Spivey Hall staff.

Auxiliary Services Hours for July 4 and July 5
In observance of Independence Day, Thursday, July 4, The Loch Shop, LakerCard Center, and all dining locations will be closed.
On Friday, July 5, The Loch Shop and LakerCard Center will re-open with regular hours. Jazzman’s will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pizza Hut and SubConnection will be closed.
Clayton County Fourth of July Celebration
Clayton County Parks and Recreation’s Fourth of July Celebration will be held at Clayton County International Park, with an outdoor concert by “Contagious” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Lakeview Amphitheater. The fireworks begin at dusk. Cost is $10 per car.
Construction Scheduled to Begin on Clayton Hall Roof, July 8
On or about July 8, construction will begin to replace the roof of Clayton Hall. The construction project is expected to last about five weeks. During that time, about 20 parking spaces in parking Lot C will be reserved for storage of the construction equipment and trailers. Please exercise caution when driving on Caldwell Drive as well as parking in the C lot.
Degree Completion Event Allows You to Finish Your Dream, July 9
Clayton State University, the place where dreams are made real, is offering individuals with college credits but no college degree a chance to learn more about how to make their own dreams real.
On Tuesday, July 9, Clayton State will hold a special Degree Completion Event, “It’s Time to Finish Your Dream,” with the goal of providing information and on-site services to those in the community who have already earned college credit and are now ready to finish their college degree.
“It’s Time to Finish Your Dream” will run continuously between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., on “Main Street” on the second floor of the James M. Baker University Center. Interested individuals can drop in at any time between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., without needing a reservation, to learn more about degree completion.
“It’s Time to Finish Your Dream” will feature representatives from eight Clayton State departments, all of which are dedicated to providing information and assisting prospective students. Here are some of the services that will be provided to attendees, starting with Academic Advising’s information on Clayton State’s 40 different academic undergraduate programs.
The Office of Recruitment & Admissions – individuals who apply at “It’s Time to Finish Your Dream” will have their $40 application fee waived.
The Office of Financial Aid will help attendees complete the online application for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Registrar’s Office will provide a quick evaluation of previous college transcripts.
Want to learn how to earn credit by exam? The Testing Center has the answers. You can also learn about free tutoring and other academic support services from the Center for Academic Success.
Two special student services will also be available for their insight during “It’s Time to Finish Your Dream.” Career Services will help you explore ways to select the right major and prepare for your career. Clayton State’s Veterans Resource Center will also be on-site to provide camaraderie and support from and for veterans.

School of Graduate Studies Open House, July 9
The Clayton State University School of Graduate Studies will be holding its next informational Open House on Tuesday, July 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., in room 101 in the Harry S. Downs Center. Individuals are not required to register for this event.
The Open House will give prospective graduate students a chance to learn more about the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (concentrations in English, Criminology, History, Political Science and Liberal Arts), Master of Arts in Teaching English, Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics, Master of Education with a major in Teacher Leadership, Master of Business Administration (concentrations in Accounting, International Business, and Supply Chain Management), Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Nursing (concentrations in Education and Leadership), Master of Archival Studies and Master of Science in Psychology (concentrations in Applied Developmental and Clinical).
Building Naming Committee Solicits Input, Deadline July 10
Creative minds are needed! It is common knowledge that a few of our campus building share common wording which creates confusion for our students and visitors. As such, the Building Naming Committee is seeking input from the University community to rename the Student Center, the Athletics & Fitness Center, and the Student Activities Center.
Submissions should be sent by the July 10 deadline to any of the following committee members; Cindy Lauer (co-chair), Jim Braun (co-chair), Kelly Adams, Dolores Cox, Mike Mead, Nicole Harris and R.B. Rosenburg.

The Bent Tree Freshman Edition Submissions, Deadline July 12
The Bent Tree will be putting together its first-ever freshman edition for the incoming class of freshman this fall.
The Bent Tree “Freshman Exclusive” will be distributed to the new freshman in Laker Hall during Freshman Premiere Week. This edition of the paper will focus on the things incoming freshman need to know: the services offered to students on campus; things to do on campus; and will highlight some important dates for students in the first few weeks of the semester.
The Bent Tree would like to invite all campus departments, offices, and services to send in their articles, photos, calendars and advertisements for this special new edition of the paper.

Clayton State SBDC Offers GrowSmart Series for Small Business Owners, Starting July 23
Whether in business for two years or 20 years, many small business owners are so busy working IN business, that they neglect working ON their business. In a special series of five classes targeted to small business owners who are ready for growth, the Clayton State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering GrowSmart at the Clayton State – Fayette instructional site, 100 World Dr., Ste. 100, Peachtree City.
Starting on July 23 and running through Aug. 19, GrowSmart gives the small business owner tools and strategies to reach their goals. At a cost of $895 per person, 25 small business owners/managers will attend the GrowSmart series in Peachtree City for 2013, and there are a limited number of $500 scholarships for those who apply early.
The program is designed for leaders of companies with: at least two years of successful operation; annual revenues of $200,000 or more; the opportunity and desire to grow; and the opportunity to make lasting contacts.
The 35 hours of class time cover all areas of business operation. Among the highlights are: evaluating your business, competition, and target markets; hands-on, interactive program promoting sharing of best practices; expert speakers adding insights to the topic of the day; step-by-step development of company strategies for growth; and, combined with long term one-on-one consulting with SBDC professionals, attendees will learn to apply course principles and build a business for today's challenging times.
Each daily class runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Tuesday, July 23 class is “Planning for Growth,” Tuesday, July 30, “Marketing Research & Planning,” Tuesday, Aug. 6, “Leadership & Management,” Tuesday, Aug. 13, “Financial Analysis & Tools,” and Monday, Aug. 19, “Operations & Implementation.”

Clayton State to Host International Economics Conference, July 25 to July 29
The Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics (SABE), the International Association for Research in Economics & Psychology (IAREP), and the International Confederation for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics and Economic Psychology (ICABEEP) will hold their next international interdisciplinary conference at Clayton State from July 25 to July 29, 2013.
This conference is the largest gathering of scholars with interest in Economic Psychology and Behavioral Economics.
