Clayton State University Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies Dr. Virginia Bonner, Executive Director of Continuing Education Janet Winkler, and Assistant Professor, Communication and Media Studies Jonathan Harris, will be appearing as guest speakers at the Atlanta TV Festival (ATVF) “Business of TV” session on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the conference center located at 1100 Peachtree St., in Atlanta.
Bonner, Winkler and Harris will be joined by Michael Akins of IATSE Local 479.
“We are marketing this session to the local film community, as well as people who aspire to become a part of the entertainment industry but don't have access to resources and information,” explains Atlanta TV Festival Co-founder Jasmine Burke. “ATVF produces the Business of TV sessions to create that access and exposure to education and professional resources to help guide people in the right direction to getting started and continuing to grow. ATVF is on a mission to assist in growing and preparing our work force for the influx of TV and Film productions.”
Bonner and Winkler will be speaking on the new Film Minor at ClaytonState; how and why it started, what topics are covered in the course, how long it takes to complete, and what it means for a person who completes it. Harris, an expert on Atlanta TV, will also be speaking about the production courses he teaches at ClaytonState. In addition, Winkler will be addressing the continuing education opportunities in the film industry at ClaytonState, including the University’s relationship with IATSE.
