The Department of Dental Hygiene at Clayton State University officially began the 2012/2013 academic year today with its Fifth Annual White Coat Ceremony, held in the University’s Harry S. Downs Center.
As has traditionally been the case, a highlight of the ceremony was the senior class president leading students and faculty in the recitation of the Dental Hygiene Oath. Doing the honors for this year for the 54 members of the classes of 2013 and 2014 was Dental Hygiene Senior Class President Lauren Cotton, a graduate of Jonesboro High School and a resident of McDonough, Ga. Cotton’s part in the program followed guest speaker Michael Stearns, account manager for Johnson & Johnson, and preceded remarks by Kathy Allen, president of the South Metro Atlanta Dental Hygienists Society.
Also speaking during the ceremony were Dental Hygiene Department Chair Dr. W. Gail Barnes, and the dean of the College of Health at Clayton State, Dr. Lisa Eichelberger.
The Dental Hygiene Oath is as follows;

I pledge continually to improve my professional knowledge and skills, to render of full measure of service to each patient entrusted in my care and to uphold the highest standards of professional competence and personal conduct in the interests of the Dental Hygiene profession and the public it serves.”
