While November and December mean the holidays throughout the U.S., to a certain segment of the population – that which is involved in education – they also mean… final exams!
Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall recognizes this little bit of irony in the lives of so many people, so, the Hall is featuring fingerstyle guitarist and vocalist Sam Pacetti at 8:15 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 1, providing the perfect study break for everyone from middle school through graduate school (and their teachers.)
Even better for Clayton State faculty, staff, students and their families, this concert is free.
Pacetti, who is making his Spivey Hall debut, is already a notable figure in folk music.
“Pacetti’s whose musical stylings and deft fingerpicking have taken the folk music world by storm,” proclaims the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
“If Kottke, Fahey and Procter are household names where you live, consider getting familiar with Sam Pacetti's work. This young guitarist is an enormous talent. Whether playing a reel, covering Martin Simpson or dishing out a ravishing original, Pacetti is a simply astonishing guitarist” (Eric Fidler, Associated Press).
General admission tickets for Pacetti’s performance are $30.
Spivey Hall will also be featuring Metropolitan Opera counter-tenor Andreas Scholl and pianist Tamar Halperin on Sunday, Dec. 2. Another Spivey Hall debut, the 2 p.m. pre-concert talk will be followed by the 3 p.m. concert that includes works by Haydn, Purcell, Schubert, Mozart, and Brahms.
“Few can equal the sheer beauty of tone and dramatic instinct displayed by Andreas Scholl” (BBC Magazine
). A Grammy Award-nominated Metropolitan Opera star possessed of “splendid lyrical gifts” (The New York Times
), Scholl commands a voice that “rushes through the bloodstream, so tender and gravely beautiful that time seems to stand still” (The Times
The first counter-tenor soloist ever featured at the Last Night of the Proms, Scholl is a dedicated recitalist and a "story teller supreme, daring his audience to stay engaged for every compelling second" (The Times
Tickets to the School/Halperin performance are $50 (50 percent off for Clayton State faculty and staff); Clayton State students pay just $10. For tickets and more information, call the Spivey Hall Box Office at (678) 466-4200. Full-price tickets only are available online at www.spiveyhall.org
