On Saturday, Oct. 4, students (and their parents) from Rex Mill Middle School will be visiting Clayton State University for the Third Annual Clayton State University for Parents and Students.
Activities for students and parents – themed “A Focus on Math and Computing” -- are planned for the James M. Baker University Center (UC) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by lunch. Hosting the middle school students and parents will be Clayton State Dean of the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences Dr. Lila Roberts. The program coordinator is Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dr. Scott Bailey. The students will be accompanied by their principal, Camille Murner.
“The College of Information and Mathematical Science’s partnership with the middle schools targets students and families in Clayton County by promoting the importance and benefits of college and career readiness, providing educational resources for teachers, students, and families, and fostering a `college bound’ culture in the communities served by Clayton State,” notes Roberts. “The University for Parents and Students is designed to move us closer to achieving these goals for the benefit of the children and families in the community. We help make dreams real.”
Also helping make dreams real for the students and their parents will be a number of current Clayton State students who are serving as volunteers for the day, and several Clayton State departments.
