Students must complete all Professional Studies and Concentration courses with a grade of “B" or higher to continue with the cohort. Student Teaching/Internship courses must be completed with a “B” or higher.
Each student is advised by a committee consisting of faculty from the Concentration Area and faculty from the Department of Teacher Education. Exit requirements for this program are:
Students who withdraw from the program for particular reasons may have to reapply in order to return.

In order to participate, or even be placed, in the field experiences portion of the program, students must:
Provisionally licensed teachers accepted into the M.A.T. degree program may use their current teaching position at their school to fulfill their field experience. A Clayton Stae university supervisor will be assigned by the Office of Field Placements and Education department administration.
Provisional teachers must be teaching in the content and age level for which they are earning certification.
Overall, candidates spend approximately 900 hours in their field experience setting(s). During this time teacher candidates will follow the assigned school’s calendar for holidays and vacation times.
M.A.T. Practicum I
Practicum experiences (14 weeks) in the assigned school will require daily participation in the first two weeks of the semester and two full days per week thereafter. Here, the teacher candidate will learn about the day-to-day experiences of planning and teaching in classrooms.
Internship experiences are designed to resemble the actual responsibilities that teaching requires. Here, the teacher candidate will partake of the day-to-day experiences of planning and teaching in classrooms. During January of the internship, the student teacher will function as an “assistant or co-teacher” with guidance from the assigned mentor teacher at the school. Six weeks of full time teaching responsibilities should begin in February. At the end of that six weeks, the student teacher will once again function as an “assistant or co-teacher” until the semester concludes.
A student may be removed from the M.A.T. program for the following reasons:
A student may also voluntarily withdraw from the program. Reasons for withdrawal will vary and must be discussed with your Concentration Area Coordinator and the M.A.T. Director prior to withdrawal.
If a student voluntarily withdraws from the program, for a reason cleared through their concentration area coordinator and the MAT Director, and has not been out for more than two semesters they may apply to be reenrolled. Application does not guarantee acceptance.

A student must apply for readmission to both the graduate school and the teacher education program. Those seeking re-admission, should:
*If PEPC decides to re-admit someone who has been previously removed from the program, the Concentration area Coordinator and M.A.T. Director will have a meeting to discuss prior disposition reports with the student. At that time a plan will be created to which the student must adhere to remain in the program.
