Transfer Students

Welcome Prospective Transfer Students! We're pleased that you're interested in transferring to Clayton State University. We hope the following information will help answer your questions and guide you through the transfer application process for financial aid.

Information on the types of financial aid available at Clayton State can be found on our website under Types of Financial Aid.

Transfer Student Tips

  1. Contact your current school and have all remaining financial aid cancelled. Financial Aid does not transfer from one school to another.
  2. If you have already completed the current year FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and did list Clayton State, you should check the DUCK (Check Your FA Status) to see if documents have been requested. Your file will not be reviewed until all requested documents have been submitted.
  3. If you have already completed the current year FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and did not list Clayton State, you must update your FAFSA to include Clayton State University’s federal school code, which is 008976. If you completed the FAFSA electronically and have your PIN, you may make changes via the internet by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov. Select “Make corrections to a processed FAFSA” located under FAFSA follow-up. If you need to obtain a PIN, visit www.pin.ed.gov. You may also call the U. S. Department of Education (DOE) at 800-433-3243 and request the change over the phone. You must have your DRN (data release number) from your Student Aid Report (SAR) to update your school over the phone. If you don’t have your SAR, it takes 10 to 14 days for the DOE to mail a new one.
  4. If you have not completed the current year FAFSA, you can find information on our website under Applying for Financial Aid.
  5. After your FAFSA information is received, we will contact you if other documents are needed to complete your file or you can check the DUCK (Check Your FA Status). Your file will not be reviewed until all requested documents have been submitted.
  6. Student loans are automatically awarded; however, a separate loan application is necessary in order for your loan to be certified. (No new loan can be certified if loan disbursements are pending at another institution.)
  7. Your student loan will be awarded based on your grade level at Clayton State University which will be at a freshman level until all final transcripts have been evaluated. Contact the Financial Aid office once you have received your Transfer Equivalency Evaluation so that your eligibility for additional loan funds can be determined.

Hope Scholarhips (Georgia Residents Only)

If you wish to be evaluated for HOPE at Clayton State University, you must do the following:

  1. If you believe that you are HOPE eligible as a transfer student, you must email the Financial Aid Office at FinancialAid@clayton.edu and request to be reviewed for HOPE. This cannot be done until ALL final transcripts have been received. This process could take 4 to 6 weeks.
  2. You must make sure that all FINAL academic transcripts from every institution that you have attended since high school have been mailed to the Clayton State University Registrar’s Office. This requirement applies to all previously attended institutions regardless of whether Clayton State University accepted the hours for transfer credit. Please note that processing your HOPE award may take up to 6 weeks after all of your transcripts have been received by the Registrar's Office.
  3. In addition to transcript(s), we will need a current year FAFSA application or a GSFAPPS. If you completed the GSFAPPS, you should notify us by email at FinancialAid@clayton.edu.
  4. Contact your current school and have all remaining financial aid cancelled. Financial Aid does not transfer from one school to another.

Your Financial Aid Award

Once your financial aid eligibility has been determined, your award information will be available on your DUCK account and will also be sent to your Clayton State email account. Details regarding our Communication Methods can be found on our website.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

All students receiving financial aid, including Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, PLUS Loan, HOPE Scholarship, Work Study, and SEOG are expected to maintain standards of satisfactory academic progress in order to remain eligible for financial aid.

Generally, there are three components of satisfactory academic progress: grade point average (GPA), completion ratio (must earn 67% of all attempted credit hours), and timeframe (how quickly you are completing your program of study). You can find Clayton State’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy on our web site.
