HOPE Scholarship End-Of-Spring Checkpoint

I am a freshman and will have 24 hours after Spring Semester. Will I be checked for HOPE eligibility since I have not reached the 30 hour checkpoint? Yes, you will be checked for HOPE eligibility due to the End-of-Spring Checkpoint.

Are there any exceptions to the End-of-Spring Checkpoint? The only exception is for first-time freshmen students who enrolled for less than 12 hours for each of their first two terms. Those students are checked at the end of their third semester regardless of the number of hours that have been attempted.

I reached a checkpoint at the end of Fall Semester and was reviewed for HOPE eligibility. Since I was HOPE eligible at that time, will I be checked again at the End-of-Spring Checkpoint? Yes. Even if you just reached a HOPE checkpoint at the end of Fall Semester, you will be checked again at the end of Spring.

Does this End-of-Spring Checkpoint affect the 30, 60, and 90 hour checkpoints? No. The End-of-Spring Checkpoint is in addition to the 30, 60, and 90 hour checkpoints. You must have a 3.0 HOPE GPA at the End-of-Spring Checkpoint along with a 3.0 HOPE GPA at the 30, 60, and 90 hour checkpoints.

Can I regain HOPE eligibility at the new End-of-Spring Checkpoint? No, you cannot regain HOPE eligibility at the End-of-Spring Checkpoint.

My cumulative GPA on the DUCK is above a 3.0, but I have been told that I am not eligible for the HOPE Scholarship because of my HOPE GPA. Why is there a difference? Your HOPE GPA is not necessarily the same as the cumulative GPA that you see in the DUCK. Your HOPE GPA is made up of all attempted hours and grades, including learning support and transfer hours. All credit hours attempted after high school graduation are considered in determining a student’s HOPE eligibility regardless of whether the credit hours were paid for by HOPE or not.

I have been awarded the HOPE Scholarship for Summer Semester. What happens if my HOPE GPA is below a 3.0 after Spring Semester grades are posted? If your HOPE GPA is below a 3.0 at the End-of-Spring Checkpoint, the HOPE funds awarded for Summer Semester will not be available to cover your tuition and fees. You would then be responsible for paying your tuition and fees by the fee payment deadline.
