What types of scholarships are available?
Clayton State University offers outstanding students a wide variety of competitive academic scholarships. Most are based on academic merit, and some are also based on financial need. There are also department scholarships that are awarded by specific departments at Clayton State University. Private scholarships can be applied for through the organization offering the scholarships.
How do I qualify for academic scholarships?
Most scholarships require a 3.0 or above institutional grade point average. Other criteria may include leadership skills, intended major, financial need, and extracurricular involvement. You must complete the Clayton State University Scholarship Application and submit two recommendation forms. To be considered for need-based scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the published scholarship deadline which is normally in mid to late April. You can complete the FAFSA online after January 1 for the upcoming academic year. Clayton State University’s school code is 008976. Not all eligible and qualified students will receive a scholarship since funds are limited.
Are international students eligible for Clayton State University scholarships?
International students are eligible unless the guidelines indicate that applicants must be U.S. citizens.
Am I eligible for a Clayton State University scholarship if I am pursuing a second bachelor’s degree?
You may apply, but priority is given to students who are seeking their first undergraduate degree.
Do I complete a separate application for every scholarship?
By submitting a complete and accurate application packet, you will be considered for all Academic Scholarships for which you qualify. If you are interested in Institutional Scholarships, you must contact the office or person listed for application information. For Private Scholarships you must contact the organization offering the scholarship.
Who should complete the Recommendation Forms?
Forms should be completed by a teacher, counselor, faculty member, faculty advisor, or someone who can attest to your character and academic performance. Recommendations should not be from family members. Please submit only two recommendation forms.; Any additional recommendation forms submitted will not be reviewed or retained.
Do I have to be accepted for admission before I apply for a scholarship?
You do not have to be officially accepted to apply for a scholarship, but the Office of Admissions must receive your admissions application and official copies of high school and/or college transcript(s) by the published scholarship application deadline. You may also be required to submit SAT or ACT scores.
What is the scholarship deadline?
The deadline is published on our website by the end of each year for the upcoming academic year and is normally in April. The deadline for the 20121-2013 academic year (Fall 2012 and Spring 2013) is Thursday, April 5. Please remember that you are responsible for ensuring that all required items are received by this deadline. Applications or other documents received after the deadline will not be considered. It is recommended that you submit your scholarship application and two recommendation forms at the same time to the Financial Aid Office.
What is the amount of the scholarships?
Award amounts for Academic Scholarships range from $200 to full in-state tuition and fees. The actual awarding of each scholarship, and the award amount, is contingent upon contributions made to scholarship funds and/or the income earned from scholarship endowments. Please note that scholarship awards are contingent on investment performance as well as annual contributions from our donors. While Clayton State University makes every effort to publish the most current information, award amounts as well as available scholarships may change prior to their actual award.
Can I receive a scholarship if I receive other types of financial aid?
Scholarship awards are in addition to Pell and/or HOPE awards. It is possible that your loan or federal work-study eligibility will be reduced if you receive a scholarship.
When will I know if I received a scholarship?
You will be notified by late July of the Scholarship Committee’s decision regarding your application. Not all eligible and qualified students will receive a scholarship since funds are limited.
Where do I turn in my application and two recommendation forms?
The scholarship application and recommendation forms are available from our website. Your application and recommendation forms should be submitted to the Financial Aid Office, Attention: Scholarship Coordinator, Clayton State University, Student Center #102, 2000 Clayton State Boulevard, Morrow, GA 30260. It is recommended that you submit your scholarship application and two recommendation forms at the same time to the Financial Aid Office.
