MUSC 1771 Diction for Singers I

 
 
 

MUSC 1771 is the first semester of the two-semester Diction for Singers sequence.  It is offered in Fall semesters.  This course is required of all students in the Voice Performance and Vocal/General Music Education concentrations of the Bachelor of Music degree.  It is highly recommended as an elective for all vocalists in the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.  Students should take this course as early as possible in their curricula.  The Diction sequence is not being offered in the 2017-2018 academic year.

This course provides an introduction to the International Phonetic Alphabet, preliminary to study of pronunciation of Ecclesiastical Latin, standard Italian, and standard broadcast American English.

MUSC 2771 Diction for Singers II

 
 
 

MUSC 2771 is the second semester of the two-semester Diction for Singers sequence.  It is offered in Spring semesters and has MUSC 1771 as a pre-requisite.  This course is required of all students in the Voice Performance and Vocal/General Music Education concentrations of the Bachelor of Music degree.  It is highly recommended as an elective for all vocalists in the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.  Students should take this course as early as possible in their curricula.  The Diction sequence is not being offered in the 2017-2018 academic year.

This course provides study of pronunciation of stage German, Austro-German Latin, and French lyric diction in the style soutenu.

MUSC 2763 Diction III

 
 
 

MUSC 2763 Diction III is the final offering in the former three-semester Diction sequence; it will be offered for the final time in the Fall semester of 2012.  It has been required for vocalists in the Bachelor of Music degree and has been an elective in the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.  Its primary focus is on French lyric diction in the style soutenu.

This course has been discontinued.  It has been superseded by the MUSC 1771/MUSC 2771 pairing.
