Oil is used around the campus for a variety of purposes. It is available in multiple operational equipment and processes, including hydraulic systems, motor vehicles, elevators, fuel storage tanks and food service operations.
Whenever oil is present, there is the possibility that a spill may occur. The severity of the spill will depend on the location and the amount spilled. Preventing spills is the best way to protect your health and the environment from exposures to oil. Clayton State has implemented a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan as required by the regulations of Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 112 (40 CFR Part 112). The Plan is used as a reference tool for oil storage information, preventing and responding to discharges, facility inspections, and a resource for emergency response.
In the event of an oil spill, the individual(s) who caused the spill is responsible for ensuring prompt and proper clean-up. Personnel that regularly deal with oil or work with oil-filled equipment need to be familiar with the SPCC plan and its processes and procedures.
