Student Success Story

Ehiose Edigin

Clayton State University: Tell us about your academic journey at Clayton State.

Ehiose Edigin: My journey at Clayton State University has been an interesting one, filled with highs and lows, throughout my academic pursuit. As an undergraduate at the School of Nursing, my two-year journey has been filled with stories of joy, pain, happiness, growth, and patience. As nursing students, we are not just exposed to academic work, we are also exposed to life’s realities, making priorities, and applying critical thinking in our day-to-day activities. If there is anything I learned in my years at the School of Nursing is never to be too comfortable because one can fail at any time especially, when you let your guard down. You are only sure of graduating after you write your final exam at the end of the program.

CSU: Did you face any challenges in trying to complete your degree?

EE: I started my nursing program at the height of the pandemic which was a huge challenge for me. We had to take our classes online for the first year and our professors created different strategies to involve in-person classes and clinical rotations in the second year. These challenges helped to reinforce the point that “change is the only constant thing in life” and as a school, we were able to power through it and we have chosen to accept the new norm.

CSU: What do you hope to do after graduation?

EE: After my graduation, I am looking forward to writing my board exam and working as a nurse in one of the local hospitals. I also would like to obtain an advanced degree in a nursing specialty.

CSU: What advice would you give other Clayton State students who are working toward accomplishing their dream of obtaining their degree?

EE: My advice to other students is to not give up, stay focused, don’t be too comfortable, and have a study plan.
