AIS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Program wide statement
Archives and archival records are essential for our understanding of ourselves, our communities, and our nations. Archives are for everyone and hold all of our stories. It is essential and fundamental that the profession and archives themselves represent diverse perspectives and stories. Because of this CSU MAS program strives to create an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and anyone to explore the purpose and nature of archives. We accomplish this through engagement with discussion, often difficult, from both inside and outside of the field of archives that emphasize the many perspectives and issues facing the profession. We also strive to create an environment where our individual experiences and identities are valued and given a space to be discussed and embraced. We believe that our diverse perspectives on gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, veteran status, ability, language, and place of origin are an asset to our learning experiences. We hope that by focusing on creating an inclusive learning environment we can ensure a more diverse archival profession and fundamentally help Dreams to become real for those wishing to enter the profession.
CSU, the Archives and Information Studies Programs, and I are fully committed to creating an inclusive classroom environment. Our identities and diverse perspectives on gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, veteran status, ability, language, and place of origin are an asset to our learning experience. This means that we will be striving to present course content and assignments that allow each of us to explore, engage, question, and ultimately hear each other.
