The American Democracy Project at Clayton State University invites you to join our national debate watch party for the last Presidential Debate on Thursday October 22nd from 9-10:30 PM ET. We had over 900 people from across the US on Discord during the Vice-Presidential Debate, so I’m excited to see what this final Debate tally will be. See the information below for more details.

  • Please join in a national moderated discussion in real-time on Discord for the last Presidential Debate of 2020: Thursday, October 22nd from 9-10:30pm ET. Join Discord by clicking on this invitation (https://discord.gg/VYk3YWR). The invitation will send you directly to the Debate Watch 2020 server. When you join, you’ll see three channels (#read-me, #rules, and #roles). Click on #roles and indicate with a thumbs-up that you have read the rules. Then all of the Debate Watch channels will open up. You’ll be able to join the live-stream through the Voice channels or explore a variety of text channels. Please join NOW so that you have time to email copelandc@aascu.org if you encounter any difficulty logging in.

  • Watching the Debate: The Discord server will be used for chatting before, during, and after the debate. We will stream the Debate on one of the Voice channels within Discord. If you look at Voice channels on the left hand side, the live-streaming-channel will go live a few minutes before 9pm ET on Thursday, October 22nd. Luckily, if you are listening of watching on a Voice channel, you can simultaneously be chatting on the other Discord channels. However, you can also watch the Debate on your TV/local channels and just use Discord solely to chat.

  • Issues: The easiest way to report issues on Discord is to click on Cathy Copeland at the upper right hand corner or to write @ServerStaff on any thread at any time. We are constantly monitoring all channels, but ask that all parties abide by the rules outlined on our server.

  • The day after the debate, on Friday, October 23rd from 1-2 pm ET, we will have a National Times Talk for Students, which all are welcome to attend. Please register here (https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYuf-GsrTwoH9e_hjmdv8K15vuWSDWbSon-) if interested. We’ll also be having a Times Talk to debrief the Election on Wednesday, November 11th from 1-2pm EST; again all are welcome. The link to register for that Times Talk is here (https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUkfuygqTssGNUXR0Hq7apeP6e5QLX7OJ3a).

  • Use the hashtag #ADPDebateWatch, in addition to your other hashtags as you post on social media during the debate.

  • When you join the server, feel free to hang out in the Clayton State University chat room. You're also more than welcome to engage with others in any of the rooms provided for in the server. We look forward to watching the debate with you!
