WHY DO I NEED A GLOBAL COMPETENCY CERTIFICATE?
The world of business is global and independent. Savvy business people know the biggest growth markets will be overseas in emerging countries.
HOW CAN I EARN A GLOBAL COMPETENCY CERTIFICATE?
• Sign up for the Global Competency Certificate Program at the College of Business with the Program Director, Dr. Diane Fulton, or see one of the Business Advisors for more information.
• Keep a detailed portfolio (i.e. executive summaries and journal entries) of your skills and experiences with community leader confirmation in the following areas and pass the competency exam.
1. CROSS CULTURAL EXPERIENCES
(20 OINTS TOTAL; EACH EVENT 10 POINTS)
o Country or international festivals – participation and attendance
o Clubs that have international or ethnic focus – join and plan / attend events
2. DIVERSITY SKILLS
(20 POINTS TOTAL; EACH EVENT 5 POINTS)
o Attend or present at Diversity Conference on campus
o Attend diversity dinners / events with groups outside your own group
o Attend other diversity events in Atlanta
3. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE
(20 POINTS; EACH ACTIVITY IS 10 POINTS)
o Attend Speaker Series for multinational company leaders
o Attend international speaker sessions on campus or other universities in area
o Attend international trade and chamber seminars
4. STUDY ABROAD / GLOBAL EXPERIENCES
(20 POINTS; EACH ACTIVITY WORTH 20 POINTS, CHOOSE ONE)
o Experience a 10-15 day study abroad trip overseas
o Work in an international internship
o Study in a semester long program at an overseas university
o Travel overseas and have an informational interview with a multinational leader
5. GLOBAL COMPETENCY TEST
o Students study the 100 most important concepts in Global Competency and pass exam of 50 questions with a 70% or better score. Students who pass with 85% or higher score will gain “With Distinction.”
