The following puzzle demonstrates some of the principles that you studied in the osmosis laboratory. Read the puzzle carefully, and then answer the practice questions.
A student is given the following puzzle. She has to determine the sugar content of three solutions. Each of three cups has 100 ml of a clear liquid in it. One contains pure distilled water, another has the same sugar content as grape juice, and a third has 5 times the sugar found in grape juice. She is not allowed to taste the liquids, and given three grapes. The teacher says that if she can determine the sugar concentration of each cup in 24 hours, she will get an A for the course.
"No problem," she exclaims, as she places one grape in each cup. The next morning she has an answer for her teacher.
