The mission of the Office of
Academic Affairs at Clayton State University is to provide
excellent educational experiences that will prepare students for success in
their careers and for graduate school. In approaching its mission, the
Office incorporates five common elements in all of its programs and
services:

recognizing and responding to the increasingly global context
of contemporary life;
·
promoting community-based, experiential learning to create
durable and meaningful connections between education and all other aspects
of life;
·
focusing on continuous education and growth as a result of
ongoing assessment of learning; and
·
developing among its constituencies an understanding of
advanced uses of modern technology.
The Office is committed to
expanding the University’s educational offerings to include additional
bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Clayton State University
values the diversity represented in southern metropolitan Atlanta. To this
end, the Office of Academic Affairs is committed to highlighting global
perspectives throughout its programs and services. The Office
operationalizes its mission in large part through a continuing investment in
faculty development involving emerging disciplinary areas and instructional
techniques.

II. Statement of Long-Range Goals
(3-5 years)
Goal 1: To establish
ongoing faculty development programs related to student success.
Goal 2: To implement
instructional strategies that promote student success.
Goal 3: To establish
institutional policies, procedures, and priorities that maximize student
success.
Goal 4: To implement
methods for early detection and remediation of at-risk students.
Goal 5: To involve faculty,
staff, and students in providing academic assistance for at-risk students.
Goal 6: To improve the
knowledge level of advisors.
Goal 7: To improve freshman
advisement/orientation.
Goal 8: To improve the uses of technology
in the advisement of students.
Goal 9: To enhance student
success through increased faculty-student interaction outside classroom.
Goal 10:
To improve operations in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.
Goal 11:
To increase the number of stop-outs who re-enroll at the university.
Goal 12:
To improve coordination of activities designed to increase and accommodate
new student enrollment.
Goal 13:
To increase the diversity of students enrolled at the University.
Goal 14:
To increase the number of first-time, full-time freshmen enrolled at the
University.
Goal 15:
To increase the number of transfer and non-traditional students enrolled at
the University.
Goal 16:
To increase the number of high-achieving students enrolled at the
University.

To expand academic outreach programs.
Goal 18:
To improve the organization of marketing activities.

To use strategic marketing to improve the image of the University.
Goal 20:
To expand and diversify the student focus of marketing.
Goal 21:
To coordinate retention activities across the university.
Goal 22:
To retain a larger percentage of first-time, full-time freshmen to
graduation.

To retain a greater number of second and third year students.
Goal 24:
To retain a larger percentage of transfer and non-traditional students.
Goal 25: To expand
baccalaureate and graduate programming to meet community and student needs.
