I.          Unit Mission Statement

The Testing Center administers university- and program-wide testing for Clayton State University.  All standardized testing--including college entrance exams, admissions and placement exams, CLEP testing, exit exams, and Regents' Testing--is handled by the Testing Center.  Services also include program writing assessments, legislative exams, program entry and exit tests, computer certification tests, independent-study exams for online courses, and Clayton State University class WebCT VISTA examinations.

II.         Statement of Long-Range Goals (3-5 years)Note: the goals are indicated in the context of an assumption of steadily increasing student enrollment, faculty size, and range of program offerings which will put increasing demands on the services of the Testing Center.

        1.  Maintain and improve the computerized testing room (LAN) with up-to-date hardware and software to administer the latest versions of standardized and locally-developed examinations

2.   Provide increased security for the testing rooms and for paper and computerized exams

3.  Coordinate services with Clayton State University offices and departments to meet goals and challenges of the University

4.  Establish procedures to update testing policies to reflect ever-changing testing and student needs

1.  Continue to plan, to stay current, and to train staff in testing and office procedures, including computerized exams and office databases; Reorganize methods as needed

Director to attend National, State, and other meetings; Staff on-the-job training from Director; Yearly staff retreats, monthly meetings as needed, some computerized Clayton State University training

2.  Continue financial plan of using Testing Center revenue for purchases; Explore new avenues for revenue generation

Financial Stability Aimed at Prosperity

Director plan revenues and expenditures; Admin continue to track expenditures and purchases using Clayton State University procedures

 

Live within a budget and still provide all testing services required and most services requested; Seek new revenue opportunities

3.  Provide complete and current written information about major exams for test candidates and faculty on paper and online

Quality of Instruction—improving academic support services for students and faculty

Updating and expanding online information by Director and staff; Continuing to revise registration forms and handouts given at the counter

Microsoft FrontPage training for staff with CID

Informed clients who will prepare correctly for exams, thus achieving better results

4.  Collaborate with Clayton State University departments and with external constituencies to provide the further testing opportunities in areas such as CLEP, providing the best services to students and potential students

Quality of Instruction—improving academic support services for students and faculty; Enrollment Management; Student Life

Director and/or staff  meeting with departments as needed to work on specific projects concerning testing; Coordinating with admissions and student life for promoting testing awareness for new students

Develop changes in procedures

Students and potential students can take advantage of testing that will promote retention and graduation rates; Students are better informed and less confused about Clayton State University processes

5.  Collaborate with Media Services to consider adding visual security to testing rooms; Explore what others in the testing field are using

Meeting with Paul Bailey to explore feasibility of adding cameras to the Testing Center rooms; Talk with other testing professionals at conferences and through e-mail

6.  Explore use of testing information for institutional-effectiveness data with tests such as Academic Profile or Accuplacer
