III. Statement of and Progress on Objectives for
FY 2005/06
|
1. Incorporate the programmatic suggestions
made by AUPHA upon awarding certification. |
Participating in the certification follow-up
process will insure Quality of Instruction by having an outside peer
review board continuously monitoring our offerings and outcomes. It
will also enhance the University’s Image/Marketing. |
The Department Chair in concert with Department
faculty will address these issues. Collaboration will be solicited
from other units as needed. |
The Department Chair is expected to attend the
annual AUPHA 2005 meeting in Boston, MA to participate in the
certification panel review update. |
AUPHA certification will enhance the impetus to
move into graduate education thereby furthering the University’s
goal of Expanding Academic Programs. |
|
2. Ongoing implementation of the new major
in health & fitness management |
This new undergraduate major is in concert with
the University’s goal of Expanding Academic Programs.
|
This major is located within the Department of
Health Care Management. Enrollment management efforts are being
pursued to facilitate the recruitment of prospective students with
the help of the admission office.
|
Fiscal: A doctorally prepared faculty member
has been hired in order to offer the additional needed HCM
coursework.
An administrative assistant is necessary to
assist in the work of this department. In addition, the current
temporary faculty position in Physical Education would have to be
moved into a permanent faculty position.
|
University and Board of Regents approved this
new major resulting in the expansion of academic programs and
increased image and marketing. Students will learn how to influence
personal behavior in the community (i.e., internship) resulting in
outreach and service to the community.
|
|
3. Development and implementation of a
graduate program in health care administration. |
The introduction of graduate education to the
SHS will greatly augment the University’s strategic goals of
Expanding Academic Programs, producing Financial Stability by having
a low overhead high tuition generating program, and increase the
University’s Image and Marketing. |
Needs assessments are underway with both
prospective students and community employers. The Department faculty
is formulating the appropriate curriculum. Responsibility rests with
the Department Head. The administration of the SHS is collaborating
in the development and with System outreach. Support of a Master’s
Degree in Health Care Administration at the BOR will be necessary. |
The addition of a graduate HCM program will
require one additional full-time doctorally prepared faculty. |
Success of this objective will be measured by
the number of student applications and actual matriculation. Based
upon our needs assessment, our estimate is that from the onset we
will have full enrollment. With the implementation of this graduate
program, the ground will be laid for additional Clayton State University graduate
programs augmenting the theme of Expanding Academic Programs. |
|
4. Add an additional full-time Ph.D. faculty
member and two part-time instructors in order to enable increasing
the number of HCM students to support achieving 7000 students in
Fall 05. |
In order to have the Department participate in
the University’s goal of having 7,000 students, additional faculty
will be needed. This will also further Quality of Instruction and
increase the Image and Marketing by allowing for additional course
offerings. |
The Department Chair, in concert with
Department and SHS faculty will recruit and select additional
faculty. |
The requisite funding for recruitment
activities will be requested from the Provost’s office. Department
and SHS faculty will serve on the selection committees. |
The hiring of both SACS and AUPHA determined
qualified faculty members. |
|
5. Curricular revision tying together
activities in the Human Resource course with the Internship Program.
Students will systematically develop their
internship experiences. |
Unifying related courses and projects within
courses would allow us to strengthen and monitor our Program
outcomes. Additionally, it will enhance Quality of Instruction and
assist with the Department’s Enrollment Management. |
This project is a collaborative effort between
the instructors of HCMG 3401 and HCMG 4970. Plans developed by the
students in HCMG 3401 will be carried forward to HCMG 4970. Ultimate
responsibility for this project rest with the Department Head. |
No additional resources are needed at this
time. |
The success of this project will be in better
internship placements. Students will become more proactive about
their internship selection. Success will be measured by receiving
higher preceptor and student evaluations of their internship
experiences and therefore provide Quality of Instruction and Image
and Marketing. |
|
6. Implement the post-test phase of the
pre-test and post-test Program activity. Give the graduating
students the Program an exit interview. |
The University strategic planning themes of
Quality of Instruction and Enrollment Management will be addressed
with this activity. The former by demonstrating that the Program is
producing value added and also by identifying curricular weaknesses.
The latter because this activity is contingent upon close student
tracking. |
This test will be folded into HCMG 4999 the
Capstone Course. The responsibility for administering the test will
fall to the instructor of HCMG 4999 in cooperation with the
University Testing Center. Analysis and interpretation of the
results will be performed by the entire HCMG Department.
The exit interview will also be a course
requirement in HCMG 4999 and will be conducted by all department
faculty. This will begin in the Fall of 2005. |
The only required resource will be the time
needed to administer this test. The test will be taken during the
semester that HCMG 4999 is offered and will be scheduled by the
University Testing Center in cooperation with the Department Head.
Department members will be assigned to conduct
the interviews |
A marked improvement between the pre-test and
the post-test will indicate that on this measure at least there has
been value added. This will provide added evidence of Quality of
Instruction.
The exit interview will idea any weaknesses in
the curriculum that will be changed and will also add to the Quality
of Instruction. |
|
7. Finalize and implement the Program
application process. |
Health Care Management majors will be required
to complete a formal application before beginning their upper level
courses. This will support the University’s theme of enhanced
Enrollment Management. |
The application is under development and all
students taking HSCI 2111 will be notified that if they are a HCMG
major that they must complete this application before pursuing upper
level courses. Responsibility for this process will rest jointly
with the instructors of HSCI 2111 and the Department Head. |
The only resources needed will be the expense
of generating the applications. |
Success will be measured by the ability to
track students, make appropriate advising assignments, and
ultimately by retention. Fitting the goal of Enrollment Management. |
