Experiential Learning
I. Unit Mission
Statement
II. Statement of Long-Range Goals(3-5 years)
III. Statement
of Objectives for 2003-04
The Office
of Experiential Learning assists students in making meaningful connections
between education, work, and other aspects of life. Experiential Learning
benefits the local community by encouraging cooperation between the
University and area organizations while providing the regional employment
community with better prepared employees.
Experiential Learning is a program that provides students with opportunities
to gain community-based experience related to their fields of study.
Experiential Learning is incorporated into the University's Mission
Statement as one of the common elements in all programs and services.
Note: The
Office of Experiential Learning is also currently charged with serving as
the University’s contact point with the University System, PBS, and other
external constituencies regarding the general aspects of online learning.
Actual online classes are the responsibilities of the respective schools and
college.
II. Statement of Long-Range Goals (3-5
years). Note: the goals are indicated in the context of an assumption
of steadily increasing student enrollment, faculty size, and range of
program offerings which will put increasing demands on the services of
Experiential Learning.
1. Lead
efforts to fully incorporate Service Learning into appropriate areas of
curriculum
2. Establish
an Experiential Learning Faculty Committee
3. Obtain
the necessary administrative infrastructure to serve expanding demands for
internships and other experiential learning experiences in a “Center” for
Experiential Learning. This should include full-time administrative support
(in addition to student assistant), enabling Director to function at a
strategic and administrative rather than daily operation level.
4. Develop
and expand Experiential Learning opportunities for existing and new programs
of study
