I. Unit Mission Statement
The mission of the Center for Academic Success (CAA)
is to enhance student learning through a variety of personalized academic
services and retention strategies for all Clayton State University students.
-
Providing individualized assistance offers student
one-on-one consultations with peer tutors and professional educators in
various subjects.

Providing an environment supportive of professional
practices, group interaction and collaborative learning.
-
Providing access to multimedia instructional materials
appropriate for a variety of disciplines and learning styles.
-
Providing computerized skill-building resources, in both
stand-alone and Internet formats (Skills Bank, etc.).

Providing skills-oriented courses, labs, and workshops
(Math Reviews, Regents’ Workshops, ESL workshops, APA, MLA, and
Turabian documentation reviews, Peer Tutoring Course).

Support and implement other departments’ academic
programs and grants (Supplemental Instruction, SOS-Nursing, Business
Statistics, etc.)

Focusing on retention strategies for the University such
as Faculty Student Referral Form, Learner Feedback Form and CAA Summary,
ESL assistance along with the aforementioned programs and resources.
II.
Statement
of Long-Range Goals (3-5 years). Note: the goals are indicated in the
context of an assumption of steadily increasing student enrollment, which
will put increasing demands on the services of the CAA.

Developing more student intervention endeavors
focused on retention strategies such as implementing the Supplemental
Instruction program.

Expanding the Peer Tutoring program in number of students served
and scope or coursework included.

Expanding the Peer Tutoring program to focus on
Core Academics and Writing across the Curriculum.

Developing a Writing Lab to serve student writing
needs in all courses.

Developing an ESL program to help the University
serve an increasingly diverse student body.

Building more organized programming relationships
with other Clayton State University departments in order to more effectively assist them
with their academic assistance needs—grant support, etc.

evening studies coordinator to administer evening programs, develop
CAA website, and develop databases for record keeping and data
analysis. Coordinator should have a bachelor’s degree in English or

for student support services after reviewing designated academic
service needs. Use all available CAA staff to contribute to the
writing of these grants.
