Continuing Education Suite 220
The purpose of the Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) continuation grant is (a) to increase the total number of minority/disadvantaged student eligible to enroll and succeed in nursing, (b) increase Hispanic student enrollment and graduation, and (c) increase the cultural competency of all Clayton State University (CSU) School of Nursing (SON) nursing students.
The project objectives address the three major purposes of the NWD program: retention, pre-entry preparation and student scholarships and stipends. By June 2013, the project will involve a total of 690 minority/disadvantaged students, including 279 Hispanic participants. This total includes 105 middle and high school students, 345 pre-nursing students, and 250 nursing students. Hispanic participants include approximately 178 middle and high school students and 101 pre nursing and nursing students. Approximately 230 of the project participants will graduate by 2013. Pre-entry and retention activities involve outreach, information sessions, development of linkages, group tutoring, on-line academic support, and mentoring. To support successful retention, graduation and entry into the nursing profession, scholarships and stipends will be awarded to 150 students.
