John Grisham’s New Novel Available April 10
The Clayton State University Loch Shop has ordered new bargain books for spring and summer. That means, among other things, that the old stock has to go. It also means a sale for all customers… the “Spring Into Reading Sale,” which starts today, Apr. 4, and runs through Apr. 13.
Numerous bargain titles are now marked for clearance at $1.Many new and recent release books are also on sale for 50 percent off retail price, including former Book of the Week and Christmas Catalog titles.
In addition to the Spring Into Reading Sale, Loch Shop Manager Todd Smith has announced that the latest John Grisham opus, “Calico Joe,” will be released on Tuesday, Apr. 10. For a limited time, the Loch Shop will have discounted copies available at 40 percent off the $24.95 list price, or $14.97 plus tax.
Grisham fans who are baseball fans will love this one. Although the best-selling author has from time-to-time delved into the National Pastime, for the first time he’s written an entire novel around the Great American Game. While only time will tell if this is the Great American Novel (with apologies to Phillip Roth), one thing is clear from the book; Grisham is, of all things, a Chicago Cubs fan. Thus, anyone who has suffered through any part of the Cubbies’ 104 years worth of torment deserves the support of his readers.
For those readers interested in the plot, Smith has supplied the following blurb from the publisher:
“At long last, America's favorite storyteller takes on America's favorite pastime. In this surprising and moving novel, the careers of a golden-boy rookie hitter for the Cubs and a hard-hitting Mets pitcher take very different paths. The baseball is thrilling, but it's what happens off the field that makes Calico Joe a classic.”
(Note: The biggest surprise would be in the Cubs winning the World Series…)
For those interested, the signed, limited edition of “Calico Joe,” which will be released in May, is also available through The Loch Shop via special order. Books are leather-bound, signed and numbered, with printed endpapers, gold stamping, a slipcase, and a ribbon marker. The cost is $200. Available copies will be scarce.
