Music teachers and students can get jazzed for the new school year by experiencing inspired teaching of Kodály-based music curriculum essentials for grades K through five at Clayton State University this summer.
Clayton State’s world-famous Spivey Hall and Dr. Jill Trinka will present “Essentials of Kodály-Inspired Music Teaching” on Monday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 19 in the Clayton State Music Education Building, adjacent to Spivey Hall. Each day’s session will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., enabling participants to experience a wide range of music repertoire, engaging instructional activities, and excellent sequencing designed to stimulate planning for the 2011/2012 school year.
This program is open to both teachers and students at a registration cost of $125 for OAKE members, and $150 for non-members. Students pay just $50.
Trinka is a program author with the Silver Burdett Making Music Series. She holds Kodály certification from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary as a Ford Foundation Ringer Fellow. She has taught music for grades PreK through five and Kodály teacher education programs throughout the United States, including the University of St. Thomas, the University of North Texas, Portland State University, the Hartt School at the University of Hartford, and at DePaul University in Chicago. She is past president of the Organization of American Kodály Educators and received their Outstanding Educator award in 2003.
Trinka is also a frequent lecturer, clinician, and performer at conferences and workshops. Her specialties include music literacy, pedagogy and performance, analysis, and research of folk music. She is recognized for her artistry and energetic performances on guitar, dulcimer, Autoharp®, and banjo. She has recorded CDs and collected folk songs, singing games, and play parties that are popular with students at all levels.
