Nursing clinical instructor earns national teaching award
Colleen Walters, a clinical professor in the School of Nursing, has been named winner of the Clinical Novice Faculty Teaching Award by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
The award recognizes excellence and innovation in the teaching of nursing. Winners chosen have demonstrated unique approaches to teaching and learning that integrates theory and practice, provides a supportive and encouraging environment to students and serves as a role model to students.
Walters is a longtime member of the Laker family having obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing with a minor in Spanish, and a Master’s in Nursing Education. As a clinical instructor at Clayton State she leads a study abroad program to Guadalajara each year, and teaches nursing fundamentals courses.
In addition to her academic career, Walters is a volunteer at a local Pregnancy Resource Center and a member on the board of Atlanta Latin American Scholarship, the Georgia Association of Nurse Educators and the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society.
