Openings Still Available for Spivey Hall’s Fifth Annual Summer Music Camp
Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall has a handful of spots remaining for this year’s Summer Music Camp… a rare opportunity for young singers to make their dreams real and perform on the stage of the world-famous Spivey Hall.
The camp will run from Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., each day. Registration is now open and the deadline to register is Monday, June 3.
Spivey Hall’s Summer Music Camp is designed for both boys and girls who will be in fourth to seventh grade in the 2013/2014 school year. Participation is not limited to previous choral experience; however, students need to be able to sing on pitch (in tune) before camp begins. Teacher recommendations are required.
Students will receive a comprehensive music experience while working with music specialists Craig Hurley and Marcena Kinney, and will feature choral singing, guitar instruction, class piano, playing Orff instruments and tone chimes, folk dancing, and performing in Spivey Hall. Summer Music Camp will be located at Spivey Hall, on the campus of Clayton State. Some activities will take place in the Music Education Building. All participants will check in and out from Spivey Hall each day of camp.
The cost to attend Summer Music Camp is $150 per student, due in full before the registration deadline of Monday, June 3. New members of the Spivey Hall Young Artists program can register for a reduced rate of $125. Discounts are available for families registering multiple students. A late registration fee of $175 per student will be accepted after June 3 on a space-available basis. Checks may be made payable to Clayton State University and mailed to Spivey Hall with the registration form, payment form, waiver, and music teacher’s recommendation. HUB Semester Break Hours
The HUB will have special hours May 7 through May 17. All requests for service during this time will be taken via telephone (ext. 4357 or 678-466-4357) and email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Walk-up service will not be available during the break. HUB staff will be sent to offices to fill service requests as needed.
From May 13 to May 15, the HUB will have minimal staffing during its annual training. Emergency campus service will be provided. Regular campus support will resume on Thursday, May 16.
Walk-up locations (Student Software Support and Service Counter (UC) hours during the break are as follows:
Walk-up locations closed: Tuesday, May 7 through Sunday, May 19.
Campus, telephone, and email services will be provided during the break as follows: Tuesday, May 7 through Friday May 17 (excluding weekends) – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All locations will resume regular hours on Monday, May 20.
Loch Shop Hours During Summer Book Rush
The Loch Shop will be opened for extended hours for Summer Book Rush. The hours are as follows:
Wednesday, May 15 – 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday, May 18 – 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May, 21 – 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Wednesday, May 22 – 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
The Loch Shop will resume normal summer hours on Thursday, May 23. Summer hours are: Monday through Thursday – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SBDC to Hold Starting Your Business Workshop in Peachtree City, May 16
The Clayton State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be holding a “Starting Your Business Workshop” on Thursday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Clayton State – Fayette instructional site at 100 World Dr., Ste. 100, Peachtree City.
If you are considering starting a small business, and want to make your dream real, this workshop is a crucial first step. Since lack of planning is one of the top reasons new businesses fail, attending this comprehensive workshop is one of the most important decisions to make prior to opening a business. A detailed business start-up book, "How to Start a Business: A Guide for Georgia Entrepreneurs," and other handouts are provided.
The cost of the workshop is $69 per person, with a 50 percent discount for current Clayton State students, faculty and staff, who should contact Heather Chaney for discount code. Kiwanis International and Morrow Business & Tourism Association Concert Under the Stars, May 18
Local Kiwanis clubs are sponsoring a concert under the stars at the National Archives Amphitheater on Saturday, May 18, starting at 7 p.m. The concert will feature Patty Mack and the Mo White Quartet.
A Mix & Mingle Hour begins at 7 p.m., in the Plaza area, with plenty of hors d’oeuvres provided by Anne & Bill’s, Rocky's Pizza, Truett’s Grill, and Waffle House. The Price is Right tickets will be sold at the event. The showcases are full of fantastic prizes. Proceeds benefit Clayton County Family Care (CCFC).The amphitheater area will open around 7:30 p.m., with The Price is Right beginning at 7:40 p.m., and Patty Mack going on at dark.
Picnic Meals purchased in advance at Anne & Bill’s, Rocky’s Pizza and Truett’s Grill will be delivered to the venue. Food and Beverage may also be brought in at your choosing. Butterfly Garden Dedication, May 31
The Clayton State Retirees Association (CSRA) will dedicate the Butterfly Garden to the University on Friday, May 31 at 10 a.m.
President Hynes, members of the Facilities Management staff, and CSRA retirees will be present for the dedication, to be held between the Baker Center and Swan Lake. Interested faculty and staff are welcome to attend. A bronze plaque will be placed in the garden during a brief dedication ceremony.
SBDC Offering "Understanding Workplace Contracts" Class, June 14
The Clayton State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC), partnering with the College of Business at Clayton State, will be offering an “Understanding Workplace Contracts” class on Friday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, in room T152 of the College of Business.
The class will be taught by Clayton State Business Law Professor Dr. Judith Ogden.
This program, designed to guide small businesses through the maze of contract concerns, will address many contract related issues; such as whether a worker is an independent contractor or an employee, whether you created a contract by writing a handbook or company policy, and whether employees should be made to sign non-compete or confidentiality agreements.

RESET 2013, June 17
Greetings student leaders! It is time for our annual RESET 2013 Retreat for Recognized Student Organizations.
Campus Life, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Clayton State Community is excited to welcome the 2013/14 academic year and are prepared to ensure that our student organizations are ready to lead the charge in achieving the many goals of the University’s Strategic Plan, such as creating an outstanding educational experience that simulates intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation and fostering learning that engages students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the greater community.
In order to do so, ALL recognized student organizations are required to attend RESET 2013, scheduled for Monday, June 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Ballroom. Each recognized student organization is required to send either the president or vice president of their organization to attend RESET 2013. This year, student organizations are permitted to send one other representative to accompany the president or vice president, although the a second representative is optional.
Student Organizations must RSVP by sending the following information to email@example.com by Friday, June 7:
• Name of organization
• Name of representative(s) and position
• Representatives’ contact email address
The RSVP will be reviewed and a confirmation will be sent to the registered representative(s). Organizations that fail to send the appropriate representative to RESET 2013 will not be permitted to register the student organization until completion of the RESET Registration Workshop for 2013/14 (the next available RESET will be held the third week of August).

Rico Lee Needs Your Help
Former Clayton State Homecoming King and active supporter of both the Alumni Association and Clayton State Athletics Rico Lee suffered a major tragedy this past Saturday. His sister and brother were involved in an automobile accident on I-20 in which his brother lost his life. His sister is now in Athens Regional Hospital fighting for her life.
The Clayton State Greek community, along with members of the Alumni Assocaition, have set up a donation page through Eventbrite in which friends and supporters are able to make a direct contribution to help Rico and his family as they are enduring many unexpected costs associated with this tragedy. One of the major costs is lodging and food for the family, as they have all been staying by Athens Regional, and will be there for quite some time as Rico’s sister continues to recover.

Call for Presenters: Freshman Premiere II Orientation
The Office of Orientation & New Student Programs is looking for faculty, staff, and student organizations to present during our Freshman Premiere II extended orientation program.
Freshman Premiere II is part two of the freshman students’ orientation program. During this time the freshman students participate in move-in at Laker Hall, New Student Convocation, and A Party for Good. This year’s program will allow for freshman students who participated in Freshman Premiere I during the summer to experience workshops that provide information that will assist them in their transition from high school to Clayton State.
