The Bent Tree is Looking for Submissions for its Freshman Edition
The Bent Tree will be putting together its first-ever freshman edition for the incoming class of freshman this fall.
The Bent Tree “Freshman Exclusive” will be distributed to the new freshman in Laker Hall during Freshman Premiere Week. This edition of the paper will focus on the things incoming freshman need to know: the services offered to students on campus; things to do on campus; and will highlight some important dates for students in the first few weeks of the semester.
The Bent Tree would like to invite all campus departments, offices, and services to send in their articles, photos, calendars and advertisements for this special new edition of the paper.
To submit your information for this edition, please send an email to Jennifer DeMond, Student Media advisor at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would prefer your submissions in JPEG, PDF, or Word format. The deadline for submission is July 12.
OITS Introduces LochBox
LochBox (https://lochbox.clayton.edu) is the successor to “mydocs.clayton.edu.” It is a completely homegrown application developed by Clayton State employees for Clayton State employees and students. Just click the link above and give it a whirl.
The goal of LochBox is to provide easy access for Clayton State employees and students to their data as well as share that data just as easily. If you were a mydocs.clayton.edu user, you should remember the _Shared folder. With mydocs.clayton.edu, you could only share content located in the _Shared folder. LochBox changes that. You can share just about any folder within your home folder (H: drive). In addition, when a user shares a folder with you, you should see it in your _SharedWithMe folder.
The LochBox site has a number of “how-to” videos that will guide you. Please let Roger Poore know if you have any questions or run into any problems with LochBox.

Clayton County Board of Health Yard Sale, June 15
The Clayton County Board of Health will be holding its Employee Yard Sale on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1117 Battle Creek Rd., Jonesboro. The Yard Sale is open to the public. For more information, call (678) 610-7424.
Clayton County International Park Fishing Derby, June 15
Clayton County’s International Park, 2300 Hwy. 138 SE, Jonesboro, will be holding a Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to noon. The fee for all ages is $5 per person.
Loch Shop Closed, June 27, June 28
The Loch Shop will be closed June 27 and June 28 for end of the year inventory. Blue books, Scantrons and pencils will be available for purchase in the LakerCard office on those days. The Loch Shop will return to normal summer operating hours Monday, July 1 at 8 a.m.
School of Graduate Studies Open House, July 9
The Clayton State University School of Graduate Studies will be holding its next informational Open House on Tuesday, July 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., in room 101 in the Harry S. Downs Center. Individuals are not required to register for this event.
The Open House will give prospective graduate students a chance to learn more about the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (concentrations in English, Criminology, History, Political Science and Liberal Arts), Master of Arts in Teaching English, Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics, Master of Education with a major in Teacher Leadership, Master of Business Administration (concentrations in Accounting, International Business, and Supply Chain Management), Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Nursing (concentrations in Education and Leadership), Master of Archival Studies and Master of Science in Psychology (concentrations in Applied Developmental and Clinical).
Recreation & Wellness to Host Summer Intramural Events, Beginning June 12
The Department of Recreation & Wellness will host two exciting opportunities for faculty, staff and students to get involved with this summer, starting June 12 and running through July 20.
Summer Singles Tennis League: come play against other members of the Clayton State Community in a four-week tennis league which will conclude with a tournament. All skill levels are welcome!
You will schedule your own matches to work best with your personal schedule.
3X3 Co-Ed Basketball Tournament, Saturday, July 20: you and two friends can compete in a fun, one-day tournament.
Each team is guaranteed a minimum of two games. Each game is played half-court and must have at least one female on the court at all times.
The best part is that you do not have to be a member of the fitness center in order to participate in these recreational opportunities. Just go to www.IMleagues.com/clayton to create an account and sign up.

CSiR to Feature Celebrity Guest Interview, June 13
Clayton State internet Radio will be featuring a special guest on Thursday, June 13. Countess Vaughn, best-known for her role as Kim Parker from television’s "Moesha" and "The Parkers" will be featured via phone interview on "Live and Direct with Ross More and the 2 Live Crew."
"Live and Direct" typically features new and local artists and allows them to perform live and communicate directly with listeners.
Since her time as Kim Parker, Vaughn has also been in several films, including "Trippin" and "More to Love." She has also been on BET's "Let's Stay Together" and VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club." Thursday's interview will focus on her hair care line and her new music.

SBDC Offering "Understanding Workplace Contracts" Class, June 14
The Clayton State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC), partnering with the College of Business at Clayton State, will be offering an “Understanding Workplace Contracts” class on Friday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, in room T152 of the College of Business.
The class will be taught by Clayton State Business Law Professor Dr. Judith Ogden.
This program, designed to guide small businesses through the maze of contract concerns, will address many contract related issues; such as whether a worker is an independent contractor or an employee, whether you created a contract by writing a handbook or company policy, and whether employees should be made to sign non-compete or confidentiality agreements.

RESET 2013, June 17
Greetings student leaders! It is time for our annual RESET 2013 Retreat for Recognized Student Organizations.
Campus Life, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Clayton State Community is excited to welcome the 2013/14 academic year and are prepared to ensure that our student organizations are ready to lead the charge in achieving the many goals of the University’s Strategic Plan, such as creating an outstanding educational experience that simulates intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation and fostering learning that engages students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the greater community.
In order to do so, ALL recognized student organizations are required to attend RESET 2013, scheduled for Monday, June 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Ballroom. Each recognized student organization is required to send either the president or vice president of their organization to attend RESET 2013. This year, student organizations are permitted to send one other representative to accompany the president or vice president, although the a second representative is optional.
RSVPs will be reviewed and a confirmation will be sent to the registered representative(s). Organizations that fail to send the appropriate representative to RESET 2013 will not be permitted to register the student organization until completion of the RESET Registration Workshop for 2013/14 (the next available RESET will be held the third week of August).

SBDC to Hold Starting Your Business Workshop, June 18
The Clayton State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be holding a “Starting Your Business Workshop” on Tuesday, June 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., in room 139 of the Natural and Behavioral Sciences Building.
If you are considering starting a small business, and want to make your dream real, this workshop is a crucial first step. Since lack of planning is one of the top reasons new businesses fail, attending this comprehensive workshop is one of the most important decisions to make prior to opening a business. A detailed business start-up book, "How to Start a Business: A Guide for Georgia Entrepreneurs," and other handouts are provided.
The cost of the workshop is $69 per person, with a 50 percent discount for current Clayton State students, faculty and staff, who should contact Heather Chaney for discount code. “It's Time to Finish Your Dream at Clayton State,” Degree Completion Event, July 9
Clayton State University, the place where dreams are made real, is offering individuals with college credits but no college degree a chance to learn more about how to make their own dreams real.
On Tuesday, July 9, Clayton State will hold a special Degree Completion Event, “It’s Time to Finish Your Dream,” with the goal of providing information and on-site services to those in the community who have already earned college credit and are now ready to finish their college degree.
“It’s Time to Finish Your Dream” will run continuously between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., on “Main Street” on the second floor of the James M. Baker University Center. Interested individuals can drop in at any time between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., without needing a reservation, to learn more about degree completion and to receive assistance from representatives of the University’s Recruitment and Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar (be sure to bring your previous college transcripts so the Registrar’s Office can give you a quick evaluation), Testing Center, Center for Academic Success and Academic Advising offices. Refreshments will be provided.

Earn College Credit this Summer Without Enrolling in Additional Courses
This summer may be an ideal time for you to earn additional course credit without being enrolled in a specific course.
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) provides an opportunity for you to receive from three to 12 credit hours in various subject areas by taking tests.
· See a list of Clayton State courses that you can CLEP: http://www.clayton.edu/testing/CLEPSoffered. After spotting courses that you need, consult with your advisor to make certain that CLEP tests will satisfy courses in your program.
· Once you’ve decided to test, see this CLEP website for preparation, registration, and paymentinformation:

· The tests will be held in the Clayton State Testing Center on the first floor of the Library. The total cost is $100 per subject exam.

Zombies Needed for "Welcome to the Bubs"
Recent Clayton State graduate Anissa Matlock is organizing auditions for an indie film called "Welcome to the Bubs," a zombie/apocalypse comedy.
Matlock is inquiring of Clayton State students, faculty and staff who may be interested in casting as a zombie – they’ll need nearly 100 of the walking dead.
There is no “dead” line to sign-up and all types of zombies are needed. There will also be some "hero zombies" that will have direct interaction with the main cast.
They must be willing to wear latex applications and a good bit of fake blood. They should be comfortable with stage combat, and must attend ALL rehearsals as they will be getting killed with blunt objects, rather than being shot from a distance and will need to practice with the cast.
There is an official registry for interested Zombies; go to www.welcometothebubs.com, where you can enlist as survivors, zombies, preppers, or as an interested party that would like to support the movie in other ways.
Audition dates are flexible. Further details for the actual audition will be sent to the actors selected to audition. Filming is taking place between mid-June and August this year in Marietta. Actors/zombies selected may be asked to return for the next episode. This production is being filmed in three parts and may be released as webisodes.
