Women’s Forum Raises $3500 for Clayton State Scholarships; Online Auction Continues Starting Today
The Nov. 15 Clayton State University Women’s Forum’s Annual Auction, Chili Cook-Off, and Quilt Raffle has raised more than $3500 for Clayton State scholarships, and the fun will continue next week.
The Women’s Forum’s Dolores Cox, communications coordinator for the Clayton State Office of Image and Communications, has announced that bidding for the online auction will resume for unsold items in the auction on Monday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. Bidding will close on Friday, Nov. 30, also at 11 a.m.
All funds raised go solely to support the Women's Forum Scholarship Fund, and the public is welcome to take part. To access any information on the Fall Scholarship Fund Raiser, go to the Women’s Forum website at

The Loch Shop Fall Customer Service Survey, Open Until Nov. 19
The Loch Shop is always anxious to get feedback about our services from our campus community, and we are opening our annual Fall Customer Service Survey to all Clayton State faculty, staff, and students.
The Loch Shop will be giving a $50 Loch Shop gift card to three lucky respondents chosen at random from those who complete the survey and provide their contact information. Each person who completes the survey and provides a valid email address will be also sent an exclusive Loch Shop Friends & Family coupon good through the holiday season.

SAC, Fitness Center Closed for Thanksgiving Break
The SAC and the Fitness Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving break, Nov. 22 to Nov. 25, to allow everyone to spend time with friends and family.
The SAC Fitness Center will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and re-open on Monday, Nov. 26 at 6 a.m.

There will be no meal service at the Lakeside Dining Hall or Sandella’s during the Thanksgiving break, Nov. 22 to Nov. 25.
The Lakeside Dining Hall will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and re-open for breakfast on Monday, Nov. 26. Sandella’s will close at 11 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 20 and re-open Sunday, Nov. 25, at 4:30 p.m.

What are You Doing for Spring Break?
The 2013 Alternative Spring Break will offer Clayton State students the opportunity to helping provide quality early education for preschoolers in a Head Start program in Biloxi, Miss.; or working to protect and preserve a stretch of the Mississippi River in Memphis.
Two information sessions about the 2013 Alternative Spring Break Volunteer Program will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 1:30 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m., in Ballroom B of the Student Activities Center. These information sessions will cover the application process, participation costs, guidelines and details about each service site.

Chemistry Club Holding a Study Day, Dec. 1
In an effort to help out as many students as possible review for their finals in Chemistry, the Clayton State Chemistry Club is hosting a Study Day on Saturday, Dec. 1, from noon to 3 p.m., in room G101 of the Arts and Sciences Building.
Club members and Chemistry faculty members will be there to help, and all Clayton State students are welcome to attend this event.
Chemistry Club President Gloria Phuong Le promises snacks and drinks to help students feel a bit more energetic and to better focus in their studying.
Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Silent Auction
A couple weeks ago, Spivey Hall hosted the Second Annual Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Silent Auction.
Spivey Hall Education Manager Catherine Giel notes that there are some leftover items that the Hall would love to sell. All proceeds benefit the Spivey Hall Tour Choir in helping defer their touring costs.
All the items left are posted on the Children’s Choir website and can be purchased for a super-discounted “buy it now” price by contacting General Manager Carol Abarr at (770) 946-9072. There are some things on there that would make great Christmas presents. Let’s make this a real “Children’s Crusade.”

SAC Fitness Center Locker Rental Notice
For those patrons who are renting locker at the SAC Fitness Center, you have until Dec. 12, (8 p.m.) to clean out your locker. Any locks remaining after that date will be cut and the contents will be stored for 30 days. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity. All contents must be removed for the duration of winter break. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Clayton Community Big Band Presents “Hooked on Basie,” Nov. 26
The Clayton State University Department of Visual and Performing Arts presents the Clayton Community Big Band (CCBB) in “Hooked On Basie” in Spivey Hall on Monday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
“Hooked on Basie” will include popular charts from all decades of Basie's career, including writers Neal Hefti, Quincy Jones, Sammy Nestico, and Bill Holman.
"This is actually the fourth program of 100 percent Count Basie music that the CCBB has held in our twelve years of existence,” says founding and current director Stacey Houghton. “I am surely hooked on Basie, the band can't get enough Basie, and our audiences always enjoy and request Basie; this concert cannot lose! It has been five years since the last all-Basie show, so we are due for another."
Netball Exhibition, Nov. 27
Have you ever wanted to try a new sport? Want to learn how to play netball? The Department of Recreation and Wellness is sponsoring the Netball Association of South Metro Atlanta for an exhibition game played at the Student Activities Center on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.
Participants will be able to see how the game is played and even learn basic netball fundamentals and techniques from the netball national coach and players. Netball is played in 70 countries by 20 million people, so come check out this up and coming sport!
Spivey Hall Young People’s Concert, Nov. 29, Nov. 30
Clayton State University’s world-famous Spivey Hall will be celebrating the 2012 holiday season with five special daytime Young People’s Concerts; starting on Monday, Nov. 19 and concluding on Wednesday, Dec. 12. All five concerts start at 11:15 a.m., in Spivey Hall on the Clayton State campus in Morrow.
Spivey Hall’s daytime Young People’s Concerts are an excellent opportunity for dreams to be made real, and for only $2 per person. Reservations can be made by calling (678) 466-4481.
The week after Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 29 and Friday, Nov. 30, the Birmingham Children's Theatre presents, “The Gingerbread Boy.” In addition to the 11:15 a.m. performances both days, there will also be 9:30 a.m. presentations both days. Specially designed for children in Kindergarten through fifth grades, “The Gingerbread Boy” is a fun-filled tale that teaches morals of respect, friendship, and listening well.
On Monday, Dec. 3, the Capitol City Opera Company Madrigal Singers will perform on the Spivey Hall stage. The Capitol City Opera Company is a chamber vocal ensemble that specializes in sacred and secular music from the Renaissance to the present. The group will present a varied program of madrigals and traditional holiday carols in beautiful Renaissance period costumes.
The Atlanta Concert Ringers will present a special handbell concert on Friday, Dec. 7. The Atlanta Concert Ringers, Inc., are a group of experienced handbell ringers from throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. During this concert, students will learn that teamwork is a vital part of life. More than any other instrument, a handbell choir illustrates the magic and fun of working together. The Atlanta Concert Ringers will demonstrate teamwork through a variety of musical styles and holiday music.
Finally, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, Spivey Hall’s own Albert Schweitzer Memorial pipe organ, and organist Stephen Wooddell, will take center stage for a holiday pipe organ concert. The magnificent Albert Schweitzer Memorial pipe organ is the crowning centerpiece of Spivey Hall. Built by the Fratelli Ruffatti of Padua, Italy, the 4,413-pipe organ is just as beautiful to hear as it is to see. Wooddell will demonstrate the amazing range of the instrument with a variety of traditional and contemporary seasonal music sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
2013 Georgia International Leadership Conference Application Deadline, Nov. 30

Clayton State University Orchestra Concert, Nov. 30
The Clayton State University Orchestra will join the Southern Crescent Symphony and the Rick Massengale Jazz Trio for a Christmas concert on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church.
This will be a benefit concert for the Fayette Care Clinic and the Good Shepherd Clinic, both of which provide free health care for those in our communities who have no other source for medical services. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Clayton State’s Patricia Henritze is Part of a “Chain Play,” Dec. 3
Fresh off directing the Clayton State Theatre’s fall 2012 production of “Macbeth,” Patricia Henritze, Clayton State assistant professor of Theater, will be part of a much different theatrical work on Monday, Dec. 3.
Moving from “the bard” to “the blind,” Henritze is taking part in the 10
th anniversary celebration of Atlanta’s premiere playwriting organization, Working Title (
http://www.workingtitleblog.com/). It’s a chain play, wherein 10 local playwrights were invited to write “blind” scenes for a play.
“Each playwright wrote one scene in the play; never knowing who the other writers were,” explains Henritze. “It’s a fun exercise.”
“The WTP Chain Play” will be performed as a staged reading at the Academy Theater, 119 Center St., in Avondale Estates, Ga., on Monday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is on a “pay what you can” basis, from $5 to $25.
SBDC to Host “Starting a Business” Workshop at Henry Chamber of Commerce, Dec. 4
Clayton State University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be hosting its last “Starting a Business” workshop of 2012 on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, 1709 Highway 20 West, McDonough, Ga. The workshop will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
PowerPoint handouts and a book, “How to Start a Business: A Guide for Georgia Entrepreneurs” will be provided.
