Summer Semester Class Attendance
Welcome to the summer semester at Clayton State University! As you know, weekend classes began May 19, and weekday classes begin today, Monday, May 21. We want you to have a successful start of the summer semester, and we know this is also important to you It's a shortened semester, and your instructors will cover 15 weeks of course material in only 10 weeks.
Therefore, it is imperative, now more than ever, that you attend class during the first week and no later than May 29. If you do not attend at least one class session (in person or by electronic equivalent) by Tuesday, May 29,
you will be reported as a “no show.” If you are enrolled in an online course, the instructor will provide details on how online attendance will be verified.
Registration will be cancelled for any course in which a student is submitted to the Registrar’s Office as a “no show”. The Registrar's Office will notify students who were reported as a "no show" via email. This email will include the appeal process which must be completed by June 1. The “no show” student will not be charged tuition for the cancelled course. However, there may be serious financial aid consequences for students who are receiving financial aid, since this will reduce the number of enrolled credit hours. Please do not let this happen to you.

Summer Youth Camps at Clayton State… Mixing Education and Fun
Starting on Monday, June 11, local youth, ages seven to 16, will be mixing education and fun at Clayton State University, as part of the Continuing Education Division’s annual line-up of summer youth camps.
As is always the case, there will be a wide variety of interesting, unusual, creative and just plain fun weekly offerings, running from June 11 through July 20. Plus, all of the classes will challenge the young learners with multiple subjects.
The summer youth camps are split into two age groups, from seven to 11 and from 12 to 16, with five weekly sessions, starting on Mondays June 11, June 18, June 25, July 9 and July 16.

Link to the Work/Home Life Balance Survey
The University is evaluating factors related to work-life balance for different members of the campus community. The Child Care Task Force is specifically interested in understanding how the campus community balances parental responsibilities with work and/or school responsibilities.

Dining Dollar Plans Available for Students for Summer 2012
Dining Dollar plans will be available for students to purchase during the summer semester for use at any retail location. Dining Dollar plans can be purchased via the SWAN using Financial Aid May 16-23, or by cash or credit card anytime in the LakerCard Center. Remember, Dining Dollar purchases will save you seven percent sales tax. Unused Dining Dollars from the summer will carry forward to fall 2012.
Financial Aid Book Money Dates for Summer 2012
Financial Aid Book Money will be available in the Loch Shop May 16 – 23, 2012. During this time, up to $1,000 of your unused Financial Aid will be available for use in the Loch Shop to purchase textbooks, course materials, and other any merchandise you might need.
Dining Dollar Plans and Laptop Funds for Summer 2012
From May 16-23, 2012, you can purchase a Dining Dollar plan and/or request additional unused Financial Aid to purchase a laptop in the Loch Shop. During these dates, log in to the SWAN and click on the Essentials tab. Find the appropriate channel and submit your request. If Financial Aid funds are available, your request will be approved within about one business day. You will be notified via email.
SBDC Bringing Popular Starting a Business Class to Clayton State – East, May 23
The Clayton State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be bringing its popular Starting a Business class close to home this month.
After offering the class in Fayette, Henry and Spalding counties, SBDC is returning home, that is, just east of the main campus of Clayton State. The next Starting a Business class will be held at Clayton State – East, on Trammell Road in Morrow, on Wednesday, May 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Atlanta Export Symposium, May 23
Through his capacity as president of World Trade Center Atlanta, Clayton State Director of the Office of International Programs John Parkerson has arranged free attendance for any College of Business students or faculty who might wish to attend the Atlanta Export Symposium on May 23, at the World Trade Center.
This is an ambitious program, with outstanding sponsors and program panelists. It should provide excellent substantive content and networking opportunities for students who are interested in international business, international marketing and supply chain.

VRC Bringing Former VFW Commander-in-Chief to Campus for Memorial Day Speech, May 25
John F. Gwizdak, former (2000/2001) commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is coming to the Clayton State University campus to speak on the occasion of Memorial Day.
Gwizdak, a resident of Raleigh, Ga., will be appearing at Clayton State on Friday, May 25 under the sponsorship of the University’s Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and a grant from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. His address, which is free and open to the public, will start at noon in room UC272 of the James M. Baker University Center.
According to Shiraz Karaa, interim director of the VRC, Gwizdak will talk about the historical significance of Memorial Day and address student veterans about using their GI benefits and the importance of education and completing college.
Clayton State to Hold Annual Alumni Dinner at Turner Field’s 755 Club, Sept. 22
The Clayton State University Alumni Association will look to hit a grand slam once again at its 20th
Annual Alumni Dinner.
Next fall, the Alumni Association will hold its annual event at the 755 Club located at Turner Field. The Annual Dinner will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22. All Clayton State alumni, faculty/staff, students and friends of the University are invited to the event.
“We are so excited about having the opportunity to have our dinner at the 755 Club this year” says Alumni Association President Ben Hopkins. “We’ve had our annual event at some wonderful venues all over Atlanta and this will be another special night for alumni and friends.”
The dinner portion of the event will begin at 7 p.m., preceded by a reception; starting at 6:15 p.m. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take a special tour of Turner Field, which includes a behind-the-scenes look in the Atlanta Braves clubhouse.
In conjunction with the dinner, the Alumni Association will also recognize its 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award winners and hold a benefit auction.
