Purchase Dining Dollars with Financial Aid
Did you know you can purchase Dining Dollars with your unused financial aid? Well, you can! From May 21to May 31, purchase a Dining Dollar plan online and have it paid for with financial aid.
Log in to the SWAN, click the ESSENTIALS tab, and locate the Financial Aid Meal Plan channel. Complete the information requested and select the Dining Plan you want. If your purchase is approved (based on available aid), your Dining Dollars will be available for use within approximately 1 (one) business day.
Note: Unused Dining Dollars purchased during the summer semester will carry forward to fall 2014 and spring 2015.
Purchase a Laptop in the Loch Shop with Bookstore Bucks
Need to purchase a Dell laptop from the Loch Shop with Bookstore Bucks, but you don’t have enough after buying books? You can request up to $1,000 additional Bookstore Bucks (from previously-awarded financial aid) through the SWAN!
From May 21 to May 31, log in to the SWAN, click the ESSENTIALS tab, and locate the Laptop Purchase with Financial Aid channel. After your request has been submitted and reviewed, you will be notified by Clayton State email to let you know if your request has been approved. If approved, your funds will be added to your Bookstore Bucks account for use in the Loch Shop.
Lakeside Dining Hall Closing Date for End of Spring Semester
The Lakeside Dining Hall will close at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 12, and will remain closed through the summer semester. The Dining Hall will resume normal operating hours on Monday, Aug. 18, when fall classes begin.
All Meal Plans End Monday, May 12
All meal plans and dining dollars will expire Monday, May 12, 2014. Unused meals and dining dollars expire at 2 p.m. when the Lakeside Dining Hall and retail units close.
Don’t let either go to waste! Invite a friend or co-worker to lunch with you at the Dining Hall or to Jazzman’s, Pizza Hut, SubConnection, or Sandella’s to use your Dining Dollars.
Follow Drs. Hynes and Eichelberger in South Korea via Twitter
President Dr. Thomas Hynes and Dean of the College of Health Dr. Lisa Eichelberger will be traveling to Seoul and Daejeon, South Korea to visit Daejeon Health Sciences University, leaving Mothers Day, for a eight-day trip that will include meeting with the 16 people who will be coming to Clayton State for the classes this July, and to sign an official MOU further solidifying Clayton State’s growing agreement with Daejeon, which may in the future include additional educational possibilities and partnerships in other areas besides nursing..

Clayton County Community Emergency Preparedness Seminar, May 13
Clayton County’s Community Emergency Preparedness Seminar, “Community Emergency Preparedness Takes a Village” will be held on Tuesday, May 13, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The National Archives at Atlanta, 5780 Jonesboro Rd., Morrow. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and the seminar will start promptly at 9:15 a.m.

Clayton State Schedules Information Sessions for Digital Film Technician I and II
Lights! Camera! Action! The Clayton State University Division of Continuing Education is gearing up for its second round of information sessions and classes for Digital Film Technician Training I and II.
The highly-successful first set of Film Tech I courses, taught by long-time digital film industry expert Barton Bond, have been playing to full houses of 40+ students each since February. With the next round of classes due to start in June, Clayton State is holding three information sessions prior to the start of classes.
The first will be held on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to noon in Fayette County. The exact location is still to be determined, so interested parties are urged to check the Continuing Education website at www.conted.clayton.edu for location details. The second information session will be held on Saturday, May 31, also from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Harry S. Downs Center on the Clayton State main campus in Morrow. The third session will be on Saturday, July 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., also in the Downs Center.
Bookstore Bucks Dates for Summer 2014
Bookstore Bucks (formerly Financial Aid Book Money) will be available May 21 to May 31, 2014. Up to $1,000 of your unused Financial Aid will be automatically deposited in your Bookstore Bucks account on May 21 for you to purchase anything in the Loch Shop.
Remember… your LakerCard is required for all purchases! After May 31, any unused Bookstore Bucks are returned to your student account and refunded around the second week of June based on your refund preference through Higher One.

Clayton State Athletics Ready to Kickoff 2014 Summer Youth Athletic Camps
The Clayton State Department of Athletics is preparing to kick-off its 2014 summer youth athletic camp schedule.
The first series of camps will begin the week of June 2. All camps are held on the campus of Clayton State University. The department offers athletic camps for boys and girls in the following sports: soccer, basketball, tennis, speed development and a general sports activities camp.
The week-long camps are offered to youth ages six-to-17 years-old and run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-day camps are also available either in the morning or in the afternoon. Campers may also choose to combine two different half-day camps if they wish.

Clayton State’s athletic camps are designed to provide the highest quality instruction in a safe, fun, and socially-enriching environment. The primary goal is for all campers to enjoy themselves while also learning and improving their skills.
Daily activities are led by Clayton State head coaches and focus on character building aspects of each individual sport, including self-esteem, discipline and responsibility. The camps combine small group instruction as well as game play to ensure development of fundamental skills and game knowledge.

Spivey Hall First World Music Festival, Starting June 4
Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall (www.spiveyhall.org), the Southeast’s premier recital hall renowned internationally for its superior acoustics and the excellence of its classical, jazz and world music artists, has announced details of its 2014 summer education programming.
In addition to its summer camp (http://www.spiveyhall.org/educational-programs/summercamp/), this year scheduled for June 9 to June 13, Spivey Hall will launch its first Summer World Music Festival (http://www.spiveyhall.org/educational-programs/spivey-hall-summer-world-music-festival/) including seven performances by various global artists over eight weeks in June and July 2014.
Spivey’s Summer World Music Festival will include seven performances in June and July; concerts will take place in Spivey Hall on Wednesday mornings at 11:15 a.m. Each week will present an instrumental or vocal artist or ensemble performing music that represents different regions and cultures around the world. The Summer World Music Festival is presented as part of Spivey Hall’s Young People’s Concerts, providing individuals of all ages access to outstanding live performances. Artists featured during the Summer World Music Festival will provide study guides in advance of their performance that meet Georgia Performance Standards for curriculum connections in world history, geography, and music.
The Spivey Hall Summer World Music Festival is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts.

Spivey Hall Summer Music Camp, June 9 to June 13
Spivey Hall’s Sixth Annual Summer Music Camp is a week-long day camp for students entering fourth to seventh grades, scheduled for June 9 to June13. While the camp is based on choral singing, it strives to give campers a broad range of musical experiences throughout the week. This year, the program adds two new breakout sessions: music technology and drama. These sessions join past favorites including piano lab, tone-chimes, guitar, folk dancing and percussion ensemble. Each camper will also be given the opportunity to receive a private coaching either in voice or a solo string instrument.
Campers will rehearse throughout the week and then share what they’ve learned during a demonstration concert on Friday, June 13 at 2:30 p.m. Craig Hurley, director, and Marcena Kinney, accompanist, of the Spivey Hall Young Artists, will lead the team which includes Dr. David Hirschorn, a 24-year guitar and choral teacher, and music specialist Betsy Swanson, along with several Spivey Hall Children’s Choir members acting as counselors.

Request from Public Safety – Enter Your Number in the Text Message Data Bank
When there is an emergency situation that could impact the safety of our campus, whether it be a human threat or weather related, we send out notifications mainly by email and text message.
Since many of you probably see the text messages much quicker than the emails, it is essential that everyone who has a telephone capable of receiving text messages enter your number into the University system to ensure that you receive the messages. It is an “opt in” system, which means that you have to personally enter your number. As a reminder, the process is very easy and quick:
· Go to the Clayton State University website
· Click on the “Swan”
· Click on “My Tab”
· Scroll down to “Emergency Text Messages” and enter your telephone number and the communications carrier (e.g. Verizon, AT&T, or other)
· Then hit “Save” and you’re done.
It’s that easy, so if you haven’t already done so, please do so now, or if you have changed numbers or carriers since last entered, please update now.
Summer and Fall Registration is Open

The Office of Orientation & New Student Programs is still recruiting for 2014-2015 “F.I.R.S.T. Step Peer Mentors” – Fostering and Initiating Relationships for a Successful Transition.
The F.I.R.S.T. Step Peer Mentoring program promotes and supports academic success, social adjustment and development and retention for its first-year student participants. F.I.R.S.T. Step Peer Mentoring will welcome its third group of freshman students in fall 2014.

Clayton County Transit Feasibility Study
Clayton State students, faculty and staff; please provide your thoughts on public transit in Clayton County! The Clayton County Board of Commissioners has hired a consulting firm to conduct a transit feasibility study, and they need your feedback on this important issue. The study will be asking the following questions:
- Is transit service feasible in Clayton County?
- If feasible, what types of services should be offered?
- Where should transit operate?
- How should transit be funded?

Microsoft Security Updates
A serious vulnerability to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) was recently discovered. Microsoft has released a fix for Internet Explorer for Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
You should check your computers to see if automatic update is turned on, and that the patch has been applied.
For faculty and staff using university owned desktops and laptops with LANDesk installed, the updates should automatically run. However, you should reboot your computer to ensure that the update has been installed on the computer.
We urge all Windows users to install updates through the Windows Update application if the update is not automatic. Be certain to select the updates pertaining to Internet Explorer if they are not already checked. This addresses an important vulnerability found in Internet Explorer.
For student owned computers, we urge all Windows users to install updates through the Windows Update application as soon as possible. Please ensure that you install all “important updates”, as there may be several updates required to patch this vulnerability. Once the updates are complete, Internet Explorer will function at its normal level of security. In addition, for further security, it may be wise to install and use either Google's Chrome or Firefox instead of Internet Explorer for your home computer.

Free STD Screening Results are Ready in UHS
For anyone who participated in the free STD screening offered in the clinic on Apr. 15 and Apr. 16, the results have all been received this week in University Health Services. Anyone with a positive result has been contacted directly by a member of the UHS team at the contact number provided at the time of the screening.
If you would like a copy of your test results or would like to confirm a negative result, please feel free to call UHS at 678-466-4940 or stop by the office at Clayton Station, Building 1000.
Free HIV Testing Available on Mondays in UHS
UHS has signed a collaborative agreement with Clayton County Board of Health (CCBOH) to offer free HIV testing on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the clinic through the end of 2014. Services begin May 5 and will be every other Monday until the start of fall semester. Starting fall semester, free testing will be available every Monday from 9 a.m. to3 p.m. through the end of December.
This is a walk-in testing opportunity; no appointments are being scheduled for the HIV testing. Anyone is eligible for this free testing through the CCBOH collaborative to include students, staff, faculty, and community members. CCBOH will make arrangements for counseling and treatment of anyone with positive results. Testing frequency is unlimited so take advantage of this opportunity while it is available on Mondays at UHS.
