Course/Instructor Evaluations
Please complete the course and instructor evaluations by Apr. 30 (the evaluation surveys will be available on the DUCK beginning on Monday, Apr. 16.) For each class you are taking, there are TWO online evaluations to complete. The evaluations give Clayton State University valuable feedback regarding the curriculum and the instruction that you receive. This survey data is used to improve courses, to evaluate the instructors, and to satisfy accreditation requirements.
Your instructor may set aside time for the evaluations. If no time is set aside, please complete the evaluations on your own by going to the SWAN portal and logging onto the DUCK. You should receive a message with a link when you log on. If there is no message, navigate to the academic history page and click on the link in the final grade column.
Students who submit BOTH sets of evaluations for each class will be allowed to see their grades early (as they are entered by the instructors) in those classes. Those who do not complete TWO evaluations (INSTRUCTOR AND COURSE) for each class will not be able to view their grades in those classes until May 21. Please note, there is also an option to opt out of each evaluation by clicking on a button at the bottom of each survey.
The department heads and instructors only receive the summary data of the class’s comments after grades become final. Students’ names are not connected in any way to the evaluations.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” Only Two Nights Remaining, Apr. 19, Apr. 20
Opening night for the spring production of the Clayton State Theatre was great and night number two was electric, even better than the first! With only two nights left, the remaining show dates are Thursday, Apr. 19, and Friday Apr. 20, each night at 7:30 p.m.
All productions will be held in the Clayton State Theater, room 132 of the University’s Arts & Sciences Building. Admission is free to all Clayton State students and only $5 for non-students.
The University’s talented Theatre majors really performed on the three opening nights, and you don’t want to miss the gifted cast members’ remaining performances for this production, as they appear to be getting better as the nights go by. The all-student cast captivated with their melodious voices and entertained the audience with every clever punch line.
“Tonight’s performance put me in mind of any production I have seen at the fabulous Fox, or the lovely Alliance theatres,” says the Theatre’s Maya C. Houston. “The scenes and the scene changes exemplified the end result of a dedicated team of true professionals who have come together and worked really hard to give 100 percent in all areas of this production.
“Players from Northern California to southeast Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, and Morrow, really put on a show of perfect performing arts. I loved it and wouldn’t change a thing! They successfully explored love and relationships and the cumbersome situations that befall us as we move toward marriage and managing the issues that plague us on a daily basis, and they made it a gut-busting, harmonizing, self-reflecting fun recap of our individual love lives. It was so nice I have to say it twice; you must see this show of perfect performing arts; you will love it, and you will not want to change a thing!”

Day of Silence, Apr. 19
The Gay-Straight Alliance, Campus Life and Counseling & Psychological Services once again bring you the Day of Silence, Apr. 19. The Day of Silence is a day in which participants take a Vow of Silence in honor of those students who have been silenced by bullying and harassment due to their actual or perceived sexual orientation.
From 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Clayton States students who are participating will be wearing red shirts and handing out cards that explain their silence to others. Those who are unable to take the vow of silence but wish to show their support (otherwise known as supporters) will wear black shirts and will help with volunteering for the event, such as setting up and breaking down the Safe Zone in the UC Loft and helping to prepare for the Breaking the Silence Rally that evening.
If you are interested in registering as a participant or a supporter go to
http:dosatcsu2012.eventbrite.com.
After the Day of Silence and the Student Involvement Fair, come out and help the Gay-Straight Alliance and the participants and supporters of the Day of Silence celebrate the lives of those who refused to be silenced by bullying and harassment. Come hear Kevin J. Thornton’s story with a musical and comical twist. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are free, but you must register as seating is limited! To reserve your seat visit

Campus Open Budget Meeting, Apr. 20
As is now usual practice, we will be holding a campus wide open budget meeting before sending materials to the University System Office.
The meeting is scheduled on Friday, Apr. 20, at 9 a.m. in Lecture Hall Room 12. There were literally few if any alternatives for the timing of this session, given a variety of schedule conflicts, and the requirement that the institution’s budget must be sent to the Board Office by month’s end. It was also necessary to have the list of possible new funding requests vetted by the Planning and Budget Advisory Committee prior to an open meeting. Waiting until that time will allow discussion of that group’s first take on priority recommendations for the coming year for new funding initiatives. It will also give us time to reflect on the connections between present budget uses and new budget requests, and the strategic plan.
If you have not seen the very excellent summary of details associated with the “budget process,” you might consider glancing at
http://www.clayton.edu/budget/budgetprocess . This provides an excellent reminder of the many steps associated with the budget process in our role as a member of the University System of Georgia.

On Saturday, Apr. 28, the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program will hold its 19th annual season auditions. Started in spring of 1994, the choir program is wrapping up its 18th year and getting ready for the 2012/2013 season.
Arguably the most famous outreach program of Clayton State University’s world-famous Spivey Hall, the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program offers students professional-level instruction in vocal pedagogy, music theory, sight singing, ear training, presentation, and exposure to a variety of choral styles.
But that's not all. Being involved in the program also enhances children’s lives by helping them develop qualities of self-reliance, personal integrity, responsibility, compassion, and confidence in their abilities. This twofold purpose enables students to benefit as much as possible from an extracurricular activity.
