Clark Howard’s “Life After Graduation” Special Featured on WSB-TV Website
WSB consumer advocate Clark Howard’s Family 2 Family Special, “Life After Graduation,” filmed in a large part at Clayton State, is now available for viewing on the WSB-TV website.
Go to http://www.wsbtv.com/s/askclark/ to see Howard focus this Family 2 Family Special on answering graduates’ questions, like: Should they attend graduate school or look for a job? And, how should they pay off school loans? As part of the program, WSB also talked to Georgia-based companies and businesses from around the country about what they look for in potential hires.

Digital Film Technician I and II Information Session Scheduled for Peachtree City, June 7
The highly-successful first set of Digital Film Technician Training I and II courses, taught by long-time digital film industry expert Barton Bond, have been playing to full houses of 40+ students each since February. With the next round of classes due to start in June, Clayton State has scheduled another information session for that budding Hollywood of Georgia, Fayette County.
Digital Film Technician Training originally visited Sandy Creek High School on Saturday, May 17. The new information session will be held at the Clayton State – Fayette instructional site at 100 World Dr., Ste. 100, Peachtree City, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 7.
Phishing Attempt Email
Some Clayton State email users have received messages from an illegitimate sender claiming to be an email administration representative. The message indicates the user needs to verify their credentials by clicking a link that appears to be from Clayton State's website. In reality, the link goes to a website that is attempting to steal your personal information. This is what's known as a phishing attempt.
The HUB is aware of this fraudulent email and have taken steps to automatically remove it from most client's mailboxes. If you see a message asking you to verify your Clayton State mail account, please delete it. The preferred method to update or make changes to your account is to log into the SWAN and manage your account there. The HUB does not use email to ask for account information, passwords, verification of security questions or other sensitive information.
Loch Shop and LakerCard Center Hours During Bookstore Bucks
The Loch Shop and LakerCard Center will have the following operating hours during Bookstore Bucks:
- May 28: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- May 29: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- May 30: 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- May 31: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (last day for Bookstore Bucks and refunds)
Regular summer hours resume Monday, June 2.
Bookstore Bucks Dates for Summer 2014
Bookstore Bucks (formerly Financial Aid Book Money) will be available May 21 to May 31, 2014. Up to $1,000 of your unused Financial Aid will be automatically deposited in your Bookstore Bucks account on May 21 for you to purchase anything in the Loch Shop.
Remember… your LakerCard is required for all purchases! After May 31, any unused Bookstore Bucks are returned to your student account and refunded around the second week of June based on your refund preference through Higher One.
CPR Classes Offered in UHS
University Health Services is now offering American Heart Association CPR classes to all Clayton State students, faculty and staff.
Our first class will be held on Thursday, May 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the University Health Services classroom, located in the 1000 Building of Clayton Station.
This class is designed to teach basic life support for healthcare providers and is required for all nursing and dental hygiene students; participants who successfully complete the class will receive a two-year certification card. Cost of the class is $50. Student manuals are available for purchase, if desired, at UHS for $15; manuals will be available to use during the class but must remain in UHS if not purchased separately.

Department of Athletics Golf Tournament, May 30
The Clayton State Department of Athletics Scramble Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, May 30 at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club, 100 Crystal Lake Blvd., Hampton, Ga.
Registration is at 10:30 a.m., with a Shotgun Start at 11 a.m. The Awards Ceremony will by at 4:30 p.m. Team registration (which includes lunch and two door prize tickets per person) is $400, with individual registration $125. However, for individual Clayton State faculty and staff, there’s a 50 percent discount to register if you sign up by Friday, May 23.

Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for May 30
The Clayton State Department of Athletics has announced the rescheduling of the department’s initial Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Friday, May 30.
The ceremony was originally scheduled for Feb. 14, but had to be postponed due to inclement weather. For the rescheduled event, there will be a change of venue as the Hall of Fame Dinner and induction ceremony will be held at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club in Hampton, Ga.
The event will begin with dinner at 7 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony. In addition to the Hall of Fame event, the Department of Athletics is also sponsoring a golf tournament earlier in the day at Crystal Lake.
The tournament will be open to all supporters of Clayton State Athletics. Check-in for the tournament will be at 10:30 a.m., with a shot-gun start at 11 a.m. The cost of the tournament is $100 per person or $400 for a four-person team.
Participants of the golf tournament are also invited to attend the Hall of Fame event later that evening. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Clayton State Department of Athletics. To register for the tournament, please call (678) 466-4678.

Next Information Session for Digital Film Technician I and II, May 31
Lights! Camera! Action! The Clayton State University Division of Continuing Education is gearing up for its second round of information sessions and classes for Digital Film Technician Training I and II.
The highly-successful first set of Film Tech I courses, taught by long-time digital film industry expert Barton Bond, have been playing to full houses of 40+ students each since February. With the next round of classes due to start in June, the next information session will be held on Saturday, May 31, also from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Harry S. Downs Center on the Clayton State main campus in Morrow. The third session will be on Saturday, July 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., also in the Downs Center.
Make the Dream Real: Degree Completion Open House, June 3
Perhaps you have a friend, relative, or co-worker who could benefit from attending the Degree Completion Open House, which is designed to provide information and on-site services to residents in the local community who have already earned college credit and are now ready to finish their college degree.
The Clayton State Degree Completion Open House is on Tuesday, June 3, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., in the Harry S. Downs Center.
Clayton State Athletics Ready to Kickoff 2014 Summer Youth Athletic Camps
The Clayton State Department of Athletics is preparing to kick-off its 2014 summer youth athletic camp schedule.
The first series of camps will begin the week of June 2. All camps are held on the campus of Clayton State University. The department offers athletic camps for boys and girls in the following sports: soccer, basketball, tennis, speed development and a general sports activities camp.
The week-long camps are offered to youth ages six-to-17 years-old and run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-day camps are also available either in the morning or in the afternoon. Campers may also choose to combine two different half-day camps if they wish.

Clayton State’s athletic camps are designed to provide the highest quality instruction in a safe, fun, and socially-enriching environment. The primary goal is for all campers to enjoy themselves while also learning and improving their skills.
Daily activities are led by Clayton State head coaches and focus on character building aspects of each individual sport, including self-esteem, discipline and responsibility. The camps combine small group instruction as well as game play to ensure development of fundamental skills and game knowledge.

Spivey Hall First World Music Festival, Starting June 4
Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall (www.spiveyhall.org), the Southeast’s premier recital hall renowned internationally for its superior acoustics and the excellence of its classical, jazz and world music artists, has announced details of its 2014 summer education programming.
In addition to its summer camp (http://www.spiveyhall.org/educational-programs/summercamp/), this year scheduled for June 9 to June 13, Spivey Hall will launch its first Summer World Music Festival (http://www.spiveyhall.org/educational-programs/spivey-hall-summer-world-music-festival/) including seven performances by various global artists over eight weeks in June and July 2014.
Spivey’s Summer World Music Festival will include seven performances in June and July; concerts will take place in Spivey Hall on Wednesday mornings at 11:15 a.m. Each week will present an instrumental or vocal artist or ensemble performing music that represents different regions and cultures around the world. The Summer World Music Festival is presented as part of Spivey Hall’s Young People’s Concerts, providing individuals of all ages access to outstanding live performances. Artists featured during the Summer World Music Festival will provide study guides in advance of their performance that meet Georgia Performance Standards for curriculum connections in world history, geography, and music.
The Spivey Hall Summer World Music Festival is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts.

Spivey Hall Summer Music Camp, June 9 to June 13
Spivey Hall’s Sixth Annual Summer Music Camp is a week-long day camp for students entering fourth to seventh grades, scheduled for June 9 to June13. While the camp is based on choral singing, it strives to give campers a broad range of musical experiences throughout the week. This year, the program adds two new breakout sessions: music technology and drama. These sessions join past favorites including piano lab, tone-chimes, guitar, folk dancing and percussion ensemble. Each camper will also be given the opportunity to receive a private coaching either in voice or a solo string instrument.
Campers will rehearse throughout the week and then share what they’ve learned during a demonstration concert on Friday, June 13 at 2:30 p.m. Craig Hurley, director, and Marcena Kinney, accompanist, of the Spivey Hall Young Artists, will lead the team which includes Dr. David Hirschorn, a 24-year guitar and choral teacher, and music specialist Betsy Swanson, along with several Spivey Hall Children’s Choir members acting as counselors.

Chancellor's Service Excellence Awards, Nominations Due by July 1
The University System of Georgia’s Chancellor's Service Excellence Awards are back this year with a few program changes.
Previously the Chancellor’s Customer Service Awards, they are now the Service Excellence Awards because this title captures the broader definition that is intended by the program. Basically, Service Excellence is what we do every day by facilitating excellence in teaching and contributing to a nurturing learning environment.
Also, the university representatives are now called Service Excellence Ambassadors instead of Customer Service Champions. The program is also broader in scope, as shown by the following eight award categories:

Service Excellence Award – Outstanding Leader (Administrator level)

Save the Date, New Student Convocation, Aug. 15
Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Ninth Annual New Student Convocation at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 in Spivey Hall.
The New Student Convocation is an exciting time when faculty, staff and all new students assemble to mark the beginning of a new academic year. New Student Convocation is a formal ceremony intended to inspire, motivate and officially welcome our new students. President Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, Jr., will offer encouraging words to incoming students and the campus community during the ceremony.
Regalia are requested for this year’s ceremony (processional participants). If you are not able to wear regalia, there will be a reserved seating location available for staff and faculty program attendees. Business professional attire is requested for non- processional participants.

Request from Public Safety – Enter Your Number in the Text Message Data Bank
When there is an emergency situation that could impact the safety of our campus, whether it be a human threat or weather related, we send out notifications mainly by email and text message.
Since many of you probably see the text messages much quicker than the emails, it is essential that everyone who has a telephone capable of receiving text messages enter your number into the University system to ensure that you receive the messages. It is an “opt in” system, which means that you have to personally enter your number. As a reminder, the process is very easy and quick:
· Go to the Clayton State University website
· Click on the “Swan”
· Click on “My Tab”
· Scroll down to “Emergency Text Messages” and enter your telephone number and the communications carrier (e.g. Verizon, AT&T, or other)
· Then hit “Save” and you’re done.
It’s that easy, so if you haven’t already done so, please do so now, or if you have changed numbers or carriers since last entered, please update now.

The Office of Campus Information & Visitor Services in the Division of Student Affairs will be reaching out to members of the campus community to clarify the needs of the campus in relation to the office’s mission which is in part, to facilitate meaningful access to the institution by providing timely and accurate information and appropriate referrals for all internal and external constituents.

GALILEO Password Changes
In the past Dr. Gordon Baker has sent the GALILEO password each time it has changed at the beginning of a semester. This semester has an improved method for accessing Library resources from off campus locations using only your SWAN credentials.
To access our subscription-based content which is only available to authorized users, it is recommended for researchers to begin their online searches from (1) a library webpage, (2) LibGuides, (3) the Clayton State Catalog or (4) shared permalinks with our EZproxy prefix (http://ezproxy.clayton.edu:2048/login?url=).
When you start your research from an off campus location using one of these access methods you will be asked to sign in using your SWAN username and password.
Once you have initiated a search from one of the library access points described above and been authenticated, you will remain signed in as long as you do not close your browser. You will not be asked to sign in again for most searches.

Should you need it, the GALILEO password is still available. Instructions for how to retrieve the current GALILEO password can also be found in the Off-Campus Access to Electronic Resources guide.
New Dream Catchers Program!
The legend of the dream catcher embodies the idea that only good dreams are filtered through the netting allowing the good to pass through the feathers to the people. Clayton State is an entire community that rallies around the individual dreams and aspirations of its people. Clayton State’s key attributes are creating an empowering experience, offering a supportive community, as well as offering inclusive diversity and an engaged, experiential preparation.
The “Dream Catchers” program allows faculty and staff to nominate a fellow colleague, themselves or even a department that really embodies one or all of the attributes. It’s a way to remind all of us what makes our university unique! We will recognize these nominations monthly and encourage all of you to tell us how dreams are made real in your area. Continued Migration to the Exchange 2013 E-mail System
Beginning the week of June 9, the OITS messaging team will begin moving all shared mailboxes to the new Exchange 2013 e-mail servers. Shared mailboxes are mailboxes that are used by more than one person such as Campus Life, Human Resources and The Loch Shop. If you have requested a shared mailbox within the last month, that shared mailbox is already on the new system.
If you use POP or IMAP to access a shared mailbox, that will no longer work after the upgrade. POP and IMAP are not supported on this new system.
Basically, you might have to restart your Outlook at some point during that week if you are using a shared mailbox. Other than that, you shouldn’t notice much of a difference. Please let Roger Poore know if you have any questions or concerns.
