For the second straight year, Clayton State women’s head basketball coach Dennis Cox will be receiving the highest honor for basketball in the state of Georgia.
The Atlanta Tip-Off Club released its annual college basketball winners for the state of Georgia on Wednesday, and Cox was selected as the Whack Hyder State of Georgia Women’s College Coach of the Year. Cox becomes the first coach to earn the award two straight seasons for women’s basketball in the state. Cox was also selected Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year.
This season, Cox guided Clayton State to what is currently the best season in program history. The Lakers became the second team in Peach Belt Conference history to go undefeated during the regular season, and Clayton State’s 33 victories is the most in a season for a Peach Belt women’s team. In addition, the Lakers captured their fourth Peach Belt regular season title under Cox.
With a record of 182-45 at Clayton State and a winning percentage of .801, Cox is the second-winningest active women’s head coach at the Division II level.
