Clayton State University’s bi-annual Welcome Back Week provides the opportunity to assist new and returning students with getting acclimated to the Clayton State campus, community and resources. The January 2014 Welcome Back Week – known as Breaking the Ice – will also provide the public with a chance to, if not break the ice, at least try ice skating (of a fashion.)
On Thursday, Jan. 16, on the “Green” of the Clayton State Student Activities Center (the open area behind the building), the Clayton State Campus Events Council will present ice skating from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Now, as Assistant Director of Campus Life Atawanna Royal has noted, if this event had been held this past week, well, real ice could have been used.
Since another week with temperatures in the single digits seems unlikely, Royal explains that there will be a synthetic ice skating rink, real ice skates, music, lights and hot chocolate to keep everyone warm. The event is open to Clayton State students, faculty, staff and the community. Clayton State students skate for free and everyone else can skate for just $5.
A unit of the University System of Georgia where dreams are made real, Clayton State University is located 15 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
