Clayton State University Executive Director of Continuing Education Janet Winkler spoke to a class made up of business leaders, government officials earlier today on the subject of the film industry in Georgia.
Along with Craig Dominey of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Winkler addressed an Arts Leaders of Metro Atlanta (ALMA) class on the subject of “The Georgia Film Industry” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the Grand Salon of the Fox Theatre, 6060 Peachtree St., in Atlanta.
Winkler and Dominey noted that the film industry in Georgia is, as of 2010, the fourth largest among U.S. states, eclipsed only by California, New York State and Louisiana. The industry in Georgia was boosted substantially by tax incentives introduced in 2002 and strengthened in 2008. The state government claims $770 million in economic impact to Georgia during 2009. Winkler and Dominey also discussed how communities can position themselves to ride this wave of success. Winkler focused on how to leverage the opportunities being created by creating education opportunities that work in tandem with the industry.
